I have an Alpine 9885 with the FullSpeed iPod cable that I use with my old iPod Mini. I'm thinking of getting an iPhone.

Two questions:

1. Will the iPhone work in place of my current Mini with the Alpine?

2. When the iPhone is in place (in my passenger side transmission tunnel net) hooked into my stereo, and I receive a call, I assume it will pause and ring? Can I then just push a button on my BT headset and talk, and when the call is over music resumes?


Anyone done this, and have any comments?

 

If you connect the iphone to an alpine deck, the iphone will ask to go into "air plane" mode (turning off the phone and gps antenna's). While in air plane mode you will not receive any phone calls, txt messages, emails etc.. If you don't, its possible to hear interference in your music/speakers. I'm taking a guess, (I haven't tried it on mine yet).... but if you are not air plane mode and the phone does ring, I bet the music stops (again just a guess). I'll have to test this out tonight.

 

What do you guys think of the the new Alpine IDA-x100

 

You don't have to go into Airplane Mode and the interference you might hear is the same as any other mobile phone near and amplifier.

But the Alpine cable probably won't charge the iPhone. Apple used different pins for charging on the iPhone.

 

I just installed the ida-x100 last night and I have an Iphone 3g. It seems to function (charge and play music) but there are bugs sometimes where the unit will freeze or will pop an error message. I will probably post a more in depth review soon.

Older version of the iphone will work.

3G iphone will not.

EDIT: ALSO IT DEPENDS ON YOUR SOFTWARE VERSION. i had an issue with the older software version. since i download the new 2.1 no problem. but then again thats with my old version iphone.

with the 3G it does not even work at all or charge.

I did the latest update to my version 1 iphone, just after the news ones came out and now my iphone wont work with my Alpine 9886. I ended up buying an ipod.

 

if you have alpine ida series it will play AND charge the phone, 2g or 3g. I have a 3g iphone, i can play music from it, receive calls, even listen to the 3rd party applications such as pandora radio, youtube, movies, etc.

im not experienced in other alpine decks, but the ida will work with the iphone with no problems

 

I second this except to mention you will still get the 'airplane mode' error. Also when playing Pandora or Simplify, the song information will not change on the headunit from the last ipod song. Expected...
It may be just my phone, but when use Pandora or Simplify that way, my phone will occasionally get funny and stop responding. I have to shut it off and turn it back on.
