iPhone + Alpine?

You don't have to go into Airplane Mode and the interference you might hear is the same as any other mobile phone near and amplifier.
But the Alpine cable probably won't charge the iPhone. Apple used different pins for charging on the iPhone.

You CAN use the iphone as an ipod, and it will mute the music when you get a call. However...
1)The phone will ring, not your speakers like in a fully integrated sysytem.
2)Only the 1st generation iphones will charge. 3G iphones don't charge with alpine units (unless Alpine updated the pins in the new models.)

This is the correct answer.

however, i believe there is a USB option as well which does allow the iphone to charge, as long as you use the USB that is supplied with the head unit and not the one Apple gives
I could be mistaken as information is somewhat spotty on the internet
from a random forum...
I have an Alpine iDA-X100 and the iPhone 3G works great with it.
Charging - Yes it does in fact charge the iPhone. It appears to charge a little slower than the wall adapter though (similar to USB port charging).
Music on Iphone - All music plays fine. No hiccups or interference. Interface is really fast, just like an iPod. Everything works including album-art.
Streaming - Works great as well. The only issue is that when listening to streaming radio, your phone gets a bit warm while charging. Supposedly not as good for the battery; from what I've heard, warm-ok, charging-ok, warm+charging=not so desirable.
If you are playing a song from your regular music library, you can just open up the internet streaming radio. Your music will fade out, and the streaming radio will take over. If you want to continue with your music, just close streaming radio, and press Play on IDA-X100. You can also watch movies and play games, and all the sound will come out through your car speakers.
The only potential issue is the initial connection to the IDA-X100. If your phone is locked (by password) you will get an error message. Simply unlock your phone first. You might also be able to make it autolock only after a set period of time and not immediately; which may be more convenient for some people.
You do get the "Airplane Mode" warning. But even if you ignore it, it will work fine. No interference noticed either.
In otherwords, it behaves very similar to a line-out connection.
Phone (even speakerphone) will not work through iPod connection (obviously).
Overall, the iPhone is a really good match for the X100.

the one that comes with the deck.
all u need to do is just buy the deck, it will come with a USB cable and then a short iphone/ipod cable to connect to the usb. thats all u need, it will play and charge any iphone and ipod.
i dont know where these other people are getting their information, but i have both decks and i have gone through both iphones. the IDA series will work with any iphone.

Any big advantages to getting the x100 over the x001? Iphone-related or not?
Thanks for the help.
