IPOD hookup + OEM changer
Hi all!
I want to be able to hook up my ipod to my stock HU and use my OEM cd changer too. Options? While the OEM ipod link can accomplish this, I hear it sucks. Icelink and the rest look like they replace the CD changer slot in the HU, so that won't work. Honda runs CD changer + XM radio + ipod by using one single connection to the HU and splitting it later (i think).
And if the OEM HU cd changer + ipod combo (without using the Honda Ipod link) isn't possible, is it possible to run my oem changer with an Alpine 9856 + DCI + Ipod cable setup? This doesn't seem likely though. OEM HU to aftermarket changer works if you get an adapter, but I've never heard of Aftermarket HU working with OEM changer.
Thanks all. All the Ipod setups I've seen are sweet, but for some strange reason, I refuse to give up that OEM cd changer. Maybe the solution is just to sell that piece of junk and go pure ipod

This is the X3 harness and brain module, it converts your cd changer input on your oem head unit to 3 seperate auxilary inputs and allows you to still play your cd changer. It comes with a hard-wired remote which lets you select between one of 3 inputs or the cd changer. The x3 harness (HON-98) plugs into the back of your oem head unit where the cd changer plugs in. When you unplug the cd changer you plug it back in to the female side of the x3 harness. To play it you simply press the cd button on your head unit. If you have your changer selected on the remote, it plays the changer just like usual, but if you select the input where your iPod is plugged in(input 1,2,or 3) it plays your iPod. To plug your ipod in or any other type of music player (like and xm reciever), you have to have a cord that has RCA's on one end and a headphone plug on the other end. The RCA's plug into the X3 brain and the headphone plug, plugs into your iPod. This is very easy to install, i'm sorry if i made it sound difficult. The only hard part is fitting the X3 brain module in the head unit area of the dash board, but it is do-able. I used to have this setup and I was very pleased with it. I put my X3 brain under the head unit and it worked fine. The sound is very good quality, much better than any wireless or hard-wired FM modulater. I now have the Alpine cda-9851 with AI-net ipod hookup. The sound quality of the X3 system is just as good as Alpine's AI system. I still have my X3 system, if your interrested in it send me a PM. Its the only solution I know of to have an iPod with pretty much Digital quality sound and keep your cd changer. and since it has 3 inputs, you could put xm, sirus, iPod, and your cd changer all on the system. I would recomend this to everyone, even if you don't care about keeping your cd-changer. However, keep in mind that this only works if you have the oem cd changer!!!
Hope this helps out

What about the second option? Hooking up the OEM cd changer to the aftermarket Alpine 9856 deck? Anybody have info on that?
Buy the Alpine cable, cut it, then splice into stock cd changer cable?
Thanx

i am running 02-3 HU with oem changer, i plug my ipod into my amp and from there, the amp is powering the front(x2) and rear(x2) speakers.
I really want to keep the left audio switches and keep my cd changer and ipod, that's how my set up is.
yellow2003's link is a good one also, i just can't figure out why a switch cost so much
