Default iPod instal power source

Iv recently ordered a unit to install an auxiliary plug for iPod use. My problem is that the iPod will not be charged during its use. My plan is to use an iPod dock such as:

This dock allows the auxiliary unit to be plugged in and a separate cable as a power source. What are my options to bring power to this dock? Is there a way to splice the radios power source? My main issue is to do this without burning my car down and so that the iPod charges when the car is on.

Thanks for the input

Sure. Locate radio harness's red wire, splice using a wire tap, wire in a 2.5A fuse for good measure, etc.. but it seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to, especially considering the number of replacement head units out there with built in iPod control that charges at the same time... And many of them aren't expensive, either.

Is the dock designed for 12VDC?

They're pricey and you need a vehicle mount as well but I'd suggest ProClip's device holders. A lot of the ones for the various iPods have dock connectors. You'd still have to sort out the power and line out.

that sounds pretty simple, ill pick up a splicer and a fuse to be on the safe side. I really want to keep the stock radio in because i want to stay as factory as possible with the sound system and many of the aftermarket units are just too flashy with their crazy colors and graphics. the dock comes with a power converter that i will hopefully be able to splice into that red wire off of the radio.

thanks for the help guys
