iPod Touch & Dension icelink compatibility report
Well fall is here and my 3rd generation iPod is going to pasture. I guess the 3 minute battery life finally drove the point home.
Anyhow, being the reckless fool that I am, I purchased a 16GB iPod Touch and managed to get it on release day. Shortly thereafter I really wanted to shove it in the dock for the Dension and see how things worked out.
The good:
iPod and Dension interface modes work fine
iPod touch actually works better than the 3rd generation as far as song skipping goes. That's one big plus for instantaneous seek times
The so-so:
You need to use spacer #3 with the dock plus the rubber pads for a proper fit. The Touch will rest there nicely but it will not be flush with the front of the dock. It is secure enough and won't fly out.
The ugly:
Dension menus no longer work AT ALL. So when in Dension (Accessory) mode, the iPod just shows the "Accessory Mode" screen and no song titles or other info.
The iPod Touch is so much better when run in iPod interface mode that it is hardly a loss that the Dension mode is busted in this way.
Another issue is if you hit the disc changer while in iPod interface mode - it switches and you cannot see the menus to switch it back. So here's how you do it:
1. Switch to Disc 6 on the HU
2. Wait three seconds
3. Hit <<REW
4. Wait three seconds
5. Hit CUE>> & hold for 2 seconds
6. Remove iPod Touch and reinsert it into the slot.
If the CD changer display changes to "Disc 1" and the iPod does not switch back to accessory mode, you are good.
Note:
Sometimes the iPod will fail to respond to track skip commands. In my setup (3G and Touch) this is the fault of the iPod, not the Dension interface. You will need to reset your iPod to get these commands working again.
