Default Ipod vs. XM vs. GPS w/XM

Hi everyone,

I hope I don't ramble in this post, it's just that I've been trying to decide on the audio entertainment in the S and have several questions.

I've had an Ipod for years, and still use it my other cars. Simple cassette adaptor; messy but way better than FM transmitter in the city. But since I can easily connect an Ipod to the S2000's stock HU using something like a Neo Ion, I first thought I'd do that and be done w/it.

But recently satellite radio has caught my attention. I'm not particularly interested in changing my head unit, and would like a portable XM receiver/tuner, so I can move it from car to car.

Question #1- is there a connector, such as the P.I.E. devices, that allows MULTIPLE inputs (ie Ipod and XM unit) to connect to the stock HU, and allows me to toggle easily between the two? I've done some research and I'm not sure whether I actually need a CD changer (Honda or aftermarket) for this to work. Again, I prefer a direct connection over using an FM transmitter.

Question #2- has anyone purchased a Garmin Street Pilot w/XM radio capabilities? In particular, I'm looking at the 2730. Since the sunvisor mounts will be done sometime in the near future, I thought this would be a great way to combine GPS w/XM radio. It's also an MP3 player. So theoretically, one can use this single device instead of three separate devices. However, the Garmin uses FM transmission. It does, however, have a 3.5?mm stereo jack. Does anyone think this could somehow be rigged up to the stock HU?

Yes, I could just get the Garmin, installed in the sunvisor spot. Then I could get a Neo Ion and use it w/my Ipod and mount that somewhere. And then I can get an XM tuner like the Roady and mount that somewhere. But throw those all in w/a radar detector, and that's one really crowded interior

Thanks for any input.

BTW, has anyone stopped using their Ipod in their cars, since subscribing to satellite radio?

yes you can do it w/out fm.
1. get an adapter for 3.5 to rca
2. hook it up through an rca to cd changer adaper.

only 2 parts, and will turn on when you switch to cd changer.
nice and easy

I installed the Blitzsafe iPod unit in my G/F Civic last week. It appears to have an input so you can put it in line with a CD changer / Satellite Radio, so you can operate both off the same CD changer input.

You might want to check out the Dension IceLink. Its kinda pricey, but it allows the stock head unit to control the iPod, instead of having to use the iPod (like with the Blitzsafe product).

As far as getting crowded, you can install the GPS, XM Commander, and iPod without hardly any clutter.

Check out S2000GT's XM commander install. Mounted flush into the radio door with the bezel provided with the unit. If it has a 3.5mm jack, you can hook it to the head unit. The iPod can be attached to the inside flap of the glove compartment. Check Page 1 of the Electronics install photos for reference. And the GPS can be mounted up near the visor (in the near future). The only things you would see would be the Garmin unit and the XM Commander, but 1 would be up near the visor, and the other flush in the radio door.

Hardly cluttered.

Thanks for the replies guys...

I'll look into everything and post some pics when done.

And you're right, if done well, it won't be cluttered.

well, I currently have a radar detector, ipod, xm and a cd changer all hooked up - and im nowhere near cluttered! In fact, the ipod and cd changer are hidden, the xm looks stock and the radar detector is sitting on the dash.

I have my ipod, xm and changer all hooked up via a kca410c verstatile link hub in the spare tire area. Everything is hardwired so sound quality is

radar detector on dash - xm in radio door

ipod in glovebox

kca-410c linking xm, ipod and cd changer on (Jim's) amp rack in spare tire area

and some other audio goodies thrown in.....

All I can suggest if you are planning several items to install, is PLAN and RESEARCH what you want to do - plan ahead for any possible expansion. Do it right the first time.
