Default Irritating whining sound

Hey S2ki,

I have had my aftermarket sounds system for a while now. but recently i changed a lot of things with my car and did a wire tuck and moved the battery to the trunk. For some reason i am now picking up a very annoying whining sound through my speakers. i checked all the grounds and they are good and i just tried adding a ground loop insulator and for some reason that made the noise even louder.

my sound system consist of Alpine head unit, with polk audio speakers, polk audio amp and 10 inch kicker.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks
Bryan

I think this happened to me. Sounds like it gets louder when ur rpm climbs up. Mine would be heard at 4k and beyond. Just randomly happened one day and I didn't even touch any wires. All I did was mess with the wires around the amp and relocated some wires so they would not be ontop of another. The noise is gone now. All I have is a Sony deck and a alpine 12 and amp.

Make sure your grounds are making good contact. I like to grind with a dremel or file on all ground points.

Try relocating your ground point as well. My last system had that same issue, and when I relocated the ground it fixed the problem.

I also always run my speaker wire and power wires separately to minimize any interference.

Hope you get it fixed, that sound gets annoying real quick.

I had the same thing happen, noticed it was my wife. She no longer rides in the car...sorry, had to!

As others stated, recheck your ground and make sure your wires are 'clear' of each other or any power lines they may be near.

It gets louder as your rpm climbs its either engine noise which can be defeated through ensuring your grounds are solid. Also possible its alternator whine which can be remedied through a an inline noise filter between battery and alt. Are you hearing the whine through all speakers? It could also be the power wire coming too close to some of the wire.

By relocating the battery to the trunk, you now have extremely high current going through
the cable from the alternator to the battery - if it's near speaker wires or RCAs it can
induce noise in them.
