JDM in dash navi modification
The model is F500BT and easily customizable once you hack it, you can drive and have full access to everything it does and audio is wired to the deck, turns on/off with the car.
A good site to customize/hack any Pioneer unit http://avic411.com/
You can cut the vents but probably have to seal them off cause all the air will be circulating behind your dash, not good if you use heat cause your unit will over heat but your in J.A. so I guess you don't use heat much. If you really want to do it I say make a clean cut so you could reveres if it doesn't turn out well. It will be some trial and error but nothings impossible good luck.

yeh,
for some reason im hell bent on using my avh pioneer.
my only issue is, i dont want to lose use of my passenger vent even though i dont carry many passengeres.
what can i use in place of the vent or what cuold i fabricate?
if all fails i will go with your set up

heres another pic of the JDM dash with the tv nav
anyways, i would recommend cutting the passenger side vent as much as you would need to get your head unit in place. Make sure the unit itself can vent and wont over heat. Then depending on how much of the vent duct you cut out either:
A: re-plastic fill the hole in which you cut, making sure there is a good air flow.
B: using bendable vent piping, (like on the back of a cloths dryer that is like and accordian) re-route the vent with that and rig it up. You might be also able to use hoses for radiators and what not to re-route the air.
Either way you will have to modify some air ducts, but whats the worst that can happen? hot air leaking under the dash and cold air leaking under the dash, loss of some air pressure. Oh well.
so months later, ive finally decided on the pioneer gps and the amp.
here they are. got them yesterday. putting them in later.
have a quick question tho.
im noticing that all the connections to the ipod etc are at the side of the gps.
how can i reach that, or how can that stay connected once the unit is in the dash?
thanks

Hi Miss Jamaica,
Would be nice to see photos of your new navigation system.
Just purchased a JDM bezel and waiting for new gps 2din (on-dash) systems to hit the market. Seems like the in-dash are way too deep for the s2k.
Would like to know the resolution of the 500BT in comparison with the more expensive in-dash units which are claimed to be HD?
one love

Hi chiney_dolly,
did you ever consider using a 7" touch screen tablet?
Might look into this option as the units are 1080i compatible with gps and mico sd & USB capability. Plus ipad wannabi's are as low as 70 bucks
seems like all updates will have to be done via a computer as the SD card will be permanently fixed behind the dash in the unit.
If possible would be a nice project for the easter.
member input will be welcomed.
