Jet Engine whine upon startup?
I've got it too on my '04. Only on start-up after the engine has been cool. I can only hear it when I start the car in my garage - too soft a sound to hear with ambient noise. Sounds to me like air moving at really high pressure for a few seconds. I'm not too worried about it - suspect its part of the cold start routine, but would love to know for sure.
It's most likely your car's emissions air pump. Next time you do a cold start, go out and put your ear to the area just in front of the left front tire. You should be able to hear the sound louder and louder as you get closer to it.

I just had my car looked over carefully and there was a hose loose from the air pump to the (something I didn't pay enough attention to) that was contributing. My lack of attention can be blamed on a young lady walking past.
If mine sounds different / quieter at next cold start, I'll post again and maybe you should look for a loose hose.
Chris.

Just recently a local owner installed front brake cooling ducts and then did some muffler work. Upon starting the car he got a CEL but couldn't understand why working on the cat-back exhaust would generate a CEL.
Later I heard him start the car when it was cold and it was making an obvious (to me) air pump whine. Turned out he had crimped one of the air pump hoses when installing the brake ducts.
Just cold started mine for first time since that hose was tightened / replaced. Sound is reduced. Audible only with top down in my tight garage. Doubt I'd be able to hear it in open air with an ambient noise.
If yours is really loud I'd follow Modifry's lead and look for a hose in need of attention.
