Default Weird engine knocking.

On cold starts, I'm hearing what sounds like bottom end noise. I've watched videos of other S2K owners with knocking and this doesn't sound the same. I'm pretty sure it's not the timing chain tensioner, doesn't sound anything like the card in the spokes sound. Other people with rod knock say theirs only does it when the engine warms up. I was hoping someone could enlighten me or maybe someone has experienced a similar noise on cold starts. Sorry about the video, I was in a rush to take it and forgot to disconnect the air pump, but you can hear the noise very well at 6 seconds in before the air pump kicks on. The clump sound just after the knocking starts is me dropping the clutch, just fyi. If its too hard to hear I'll try it again after I get home from work. Thanks in advance!

Well I did a compression check and all 4 cylinders were the same, well over 250psi. Just installed an oil pressure gauge and oil pressure is great. Cold idle is just below 90psi, warm idle is around 20. Peaks at almost 100 at WOT, so I know its not starving for oil. I've heard TCT's going bad and it doesn't sound like that, but that's my next step, that and a valve adjustment.

It's normal, it's the cold piston slap. As long as it doesn't make it when the engine is warm.

No it quiets down and sounds normal when it gets to operating temp. That's something I'm definitely not used to, why does it do that?

It's just the nature of the engine

I suppose it is. Just read up on some other threads (https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/785283-piston-slap/)and it seems others have had this exact "issue." I might experiment with different oils to see if that helps. But from what I've read there isn't much you can do about it, as long as it doesn't hurt the engine I don't care what noise it makes.
