JL sub under dash (passenger side)
Just got back from Audio Dimensions in Austin, Texas and found out about an interesting install they did and can do (of course).
The manager told me he has installed two custom sub boxes above the passenger footwell under the dash. One was an 8 inch sub, but the guy returned that because it wasted valuable foot space. They replaced it with another custom box with a 6" JL sub.
The 6" JL sub was in a small custom box that mounts up under the dash above the passenger footwell. There is room there and the install doesn't interfere with the foot space. The manager drew the box for me; it had a large radius on one side (kinda looked like the Q-logic grill).
The manager, Andy, and another guy were talking about the installation and how amazed they were at how well is sounded (being a six inch sub and all).
Andy quoted me $75 for the sub, $200 for the box, and I believe that included mounting the box up under the dash.
They will take group buys, if someone wants to set it up. Here's their info:

It's not the size of the speaker, it's what you do with it.
No, the 6 in sub should be good enough for what I want. A sub needs to move air. The smaller the speaker, the mote the speaker has to "work" (move) to create the same sound. If a speaker is designed with this in mind it is a suitable solution, as I believe the JL chosen (I forget which one) is.
I believe Bose Acoustimass subs are two 4 1/2 speakers, and they put out great sound.
Of course a twelve inch sub would be better, but I don't like subs in the trunk as they are very infficient and take up a lot of space (which is valuable in this car).

superdave,
I totally agree with your dislike of subs in the trunk. Initially as a test, I put a Boston Pro 10.5LF in a sealed box in the trunk well and listened to it at idle and while driving... I could not hear much at all.
So I built a box where the 10" sub fits in the spare tire hole and fires to a vent in the roof well... much better sound but nothing to compare to a good size sub in the passenger compartment.
I really wish there was more room in the passenger compartment... that would totally rock... Anyway, enough fantasizing for now

audio dimensions does excellent work, and the custom boxes I've seen that they've made are excellent, paying attention to detail especially with the air movement inside the boxes.
275, not bad for some *real* great bass. wish I could afford it right now, mabye when I get a job =)

Hi guys.. just wondering, I know you can get rear speakers for the S2K with lucid's mod, but I was wondering, can you put some small subs in there? I'm not much into stereo, so I really dont know. It kinda sounds crazy to me, but just wondering if anyone has done it. If not subs, any speakers that puts out more bass than usual? Brand? Thanks...
