yup....set to LP. Well, it looks like the other amp will have to wait. I just had a room mate tell me she is moving out, so I am not out $230 extra per month, until I can find another one. Unless I can pick one up for $120ish. If you know of anyone selling a Clarion, Memphis, or JL for that price, let me know.

Why is my sig. not working? Just set one up, and nothing is happening.

I like to leave my amp sub channels full range and then control it with the HU (not an option if your HU does not have a controllable sub-out).

Reasoning is my assumption that the electronic crossover in the HU is better than the circuits found in most amps - allowing more control from the driver seat.

I sorta did this....I did not leave the subwoofer HU control all the way down, but 3/4 up. That was I have a 25% variation for lower volume listening.

Guess to clarify - I mean leave the filtering to the HU and leave the amp in full or flat (vs. LP).

Oh....my HU I do not think has that option...Alpine 9851.

I might consider an equalizer. How muchare they, and how hard are they to wire?

Thanks

If your HU has a sub output (RCA) - you should be able to control the low-pass Fc cutoff and have some bass level control. I am not to familiar with Alpine, but I am sure a few of the others could help you out.

believe it or not? the Alpine 9851 has a sub out (w/ level control) but no crossover built in...

go figure.

Sorry, John...... frown.gif
Thats alright Nico.....if you get tired of it, or just want another amp, let me know.

Kinda weird about the sub pre-out but no sub frequency x-over.....hmmm....kinda sketch.

Phil - Can you recommend a cross over / equalizer for my system? How much do they run and how difficult are they to wire? I am looking for one for all my speakers, sub and all, that I can possibly mount to the underside of the passenger dash (for easy access). I will bet that will clean the sound up a LOT. Still gets a little wild at high volumes....I guess for that (25 range +) at this level I really should have an amp. I will probably get one when my financial aid comes in September. I was supposed to get the windshield surround re-done (stupid black decal was bubbling), but I am kinda liking the silverstone painted surround. Looks kinda weird with tht top up, but I like to keep that to a little time as possible . Also, I am considering upgrading the sub amp.....283WRMS is not what I thought it would be (with a clean sound). I am probably going to look in the 300-350 range. The problem is that my sub is a 4-ohm sub.....most amps produce that power at 2-ohms. Any suggestions? I would consider 5 channel amps as well, and just sell my Infinity when I get it hooked up.

i'll have to do some looking around to find a crossover/EQ option. i know the things that i found were either quite inexpensive (and thus questionable) or quite expensive. there wasn't a whole lot of partial options out there.

you won't be able to EQ or crossover anything w/o an outboard amp though, since there is no way to get into the signal path inside the HU.

if you're just looking to get rid of some of the heavy bass from your door speakers, there are some inexpensive options out there that you can try, and they will work w/ HU power (or any power). they hurt your efficiency a bit, but the gains in clarity and control are better than the losses.

the actual change in volume from 283 Wrms to 350 Wrms won't be phenomenal... i wouldn't immediately consider upgrading that until you have tried some other options. unless your sub can handle a lot more power, you may gain nothing from a small/moderate sub amp upgrade.
