Default Kenwood HU cutting out

The story.....

Clean install (soldered connections) about 2 months ago. HU, Door and rear speakers. Using amp in HU.

Flawless operation until....

yesterday. after 15 minutes of operation. no power, dead, but antitheft light blinking.
Checked ACC fuse, Radio Fuse and fuse on back of radio. All Good. Inspected harness, and surrounding wiring. OK. Turn radio on...and viola. It works, but is generating mega heat. Shuts down in 5 minutes.

Thinking I have a thermal overload protection. Wait a while and turn radio on with car engine off.....radio gets warm but no problems...after 30 minutes manually turned off.

Later, start engine and turn on radio......gets searing hot....shuts down.

getting ready to return to crutchfield.....just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. The engine on/off may be anomalous....any ideas?

what does anomalous mean??

i think it's getting so hot because of the engine heat - what happens when the a/c is on and the roof is up does it still cut out??

Congrats on the house!

Means....I don't think having the engine on or off makes a difference. I think the HU is faulty, but was hoping some EJs would impart some knowledge/experience!
