Laser Jammer info
Jayhawker from here in Arizona has the Escort model. He lives in Mesa, the ticket capitol of Arizona, and he swears that the thing works wonders. Unless you know what you are looking for you can't see them.
Be very careful with this. Most Laser jammers are bunk. Including the K40 and the S2 (with the laser jammer). There is a company that makes the internals for a laser jammer that actually works (I forget the name: if you are really interested I can look it up), and is sold under two different brand names. A couple of points.
1. Contrary to popular opinion, the laser jammer will not come up on laser gun as speed '999', or some such , it will give the gun an error code, so the officer will know someone is trying to pull one on him.
2. It is a grey area of the law, if you get caught, it will probably be confiscated, and so on.
3. With a good laser detector, such as the ubiquitous V1, you have a 50% chance of getting away. This is my personal preference.
* All of this information comes from Motorcycle Consumer News - they are an independent and reputable source. www.mcnews.com - they ran a good article on this topic last year.
* don't ever believe any website dedicated to radar detectors - they are just trying to sell you stuff.

I have read somewhere (maybe at http://www.radartest.com/) that the Escort SR-X works, but it's $1500 installed, and you can't buy it any other way.
While the above note about "confiscating your laser jammer" may be true, bear in mind the police can confiscate your car because they don't like the color. That doesn't mean it's legal to do so, just that they have the guns and the power to do it, knowing that without spending some serious money on an attorney you don't stand a chance of getting it back.
Laser jamming, as far as I know, is not illegal. There are no laws that say you can't transmit light, or define which wavelengths of light can be transmitted or at what power. And that's all a laser jammer is, a big fat IR transmitter, very similar to a remote control, only more powerful.
Radar jammers are illegal not becaue they jam radar, but because long before radar guns were invented the FCC had laws passed that limit the output power of radio transmitters and specify what frequency band they can operate in and whether you need a special license to transmit in that band. So you're breaking an FCC regulation when you jam radar. The Feds don't like that.
BTW - the same laws that limit radio transmissions also GUARANTEE (via a Constitutional ammendment) the right of all citizens to 'receive for their own private use' any and all radio transmissions. This means it goes against the Constitution to outlaw radar detectors, but that hasn't stopped several states from doing so.

I strongly suggest that www.radartest.com IS NOT AN OBJECTIVE evaluation. It is a carefully contructed ad to lure buyers. I would not believe it. I am 80% sure that SRX is crap as well. Buyer beware.
Some of these kinds of sites also reviewd Rocky Mountain well, and it turned out to be complete fabrication. Be very very careful.
This weekend I will go thru all my old issues of MC news, to try to find the one about Laser Jammers and I'll post their findings.
Modifry, I agree that laser jammers may in theory be legal, but I wouldn't want to be the one testing the waters. Point taken though.

I read in either Car and Driver or Motortrend that the Escort laser jammer that Modifry mentioned does actually work. Personally, I don't trust radartest.com, but I do trust Car and Drive and Motortrend. This same article also mentioned exactly what was stated about the laws above. Radar is controlled by the FCC, but laser is controlled by the FDA, so different laws apply.

I found it surprising also that in the radar detector evaluation there is no mention of which devices are VG2 invisible - an important point. Also, I would disagree with their evaluation approach - I couldn't care less about the price point, as long as the device is effective. They say that V1 is the most sensitive, yet they pick Bel as the winner... Strange. For comparison read this most excellent evaluation, I feel a much better one: http://www.caranddriver.com/article.aspsec...3&page_number=1
(although this does not go into laser jamming).
Interestingly enough they also pick Bel as the winner in the expensive category of remote radar/laser diffuser category.... Yet Bel is the most expensive unit in that category. Hmmmmm. Seems very very suspicious to me.
As far as the laws are concerned, I would be very very careful. You are right, it is not illegal, but again I would not want to be caught with an EFFECTIVE laser jammer. These things do exist. I promise to get off my arse, and find the one that works. I am an avid subscriber to Motorcycle Consumer News - I feel this is the best source for the info here. They do not accept ANY advertisement and run on subscription only. I'll find the article this weekend. Feel free to visit them : www.mcnews.com - but that article is not available online. Alright. Peace.
