Default Laser Shifter Install

I found this thread on where someone mounted their laser shifters, but I was wondering if anyone has a detailed DIY thread. Yes, I searched, couldn't find anything that satisfied my noobish lack of knowledge.
Thanks.

I have done this exact install but i did not take pictures. took me about a full day to install. only differance is I removed my front bumper and mounted the radar unit behind there, but the laser detector is in same place. my radar head unit in in a simular place. i also did install the amplified speaker which is a must for top down driving.if you want to see my install,i live in tampa and i can show you how i did it. i am a firm believer in radar detectors but always hated the hassle of taking my radar detector off of the windshield eveytime i left the top down. having a remote radar/laser is great.

Laser shifting is not illegal, jamming radar is. Radar detectors seem only to be illegal in VA, but thats only if they can see that you have one. That looks like the best placement for the shifters. You want them as level as possible and on the same plain. Each side has about a 20 inch radius of coverage and if you do not have a plate to aim for, they aim for your headlights.

Legality varies from state to state. I'm in Ca., but let's ignore that for a second. The only problem I'm having is figuring out wiring. I've looked at a lot of audio wiring threads, so I get the basic idea, I'm just not sure how to run a wire through this hole in the firewall

On my install there was a plug in the firewall on the driver's side that I removed and cut a slit into to run the wires into the driver's side footwell. If you really want to use the specific hole in the photo you posted the standard trick is to use a coat hanger and some sort of suitable lube (can't recall what people recommend off the top of my head). Personally, I didn't want to run a couple of RJ45-looking connectors through an already crowded hole.

It's really not that difficult if you take your time and plan it out. I can't think of any detailed DIY threads for the S. There aren't that many suitable mounting points for the heads and you just need to carefully run and secure the cables through the engine bay.

For rear heads, you'll need to remove the trunk trim and some of the interior trim pieces but that's not too difficult either.

I'd suggest hitting a RD/laser jammer forum if you really want details. They're a better source for info IMO. RadarDetector.net is one that I frequent.

Source? I don't know of any state where they're illegal. They're certainly not illegal at the federal level either.

Illegal in CA, WA and VA, this is because lazer is their primary method of cash scamming and the lazer jammers are extremely effective and not illegal per the FCC. The down side is that some state govts dont like them due to them thwarting their primary cash crop.

Im going to bo back ot the install where the front jammers were hidden in the headlights, those are a total bitch for the pigs to find. I roll around CA jamming pigs all day, they knew im doing it but cant find them when they pull me over to inspect for them ^^

From what I've read, mounting laser shifter behind plastic, glass, lexan, or pretty much anything else kills their effectiveness (like a 90% decrease)...

Good point, ill need to do more research on this, my last system was actually in the headlights, insanely well hidden. I wouldnt suggest or recommend my setup to anyone as there is not enough research or proof into its effectiveness.
