Default LED/CCFL/ Protection?

2 questions for you EJ's.

Is it true that LED's burn out faster if they are on and you crank/start the car?
One of my corner bulbs is semi-burned out. Light output is less than half of the other corner. I noticed if the led is on and I accidentally started(restarted from stall in this case from carelessness) it essentially damaged the LED?

Are there resistors to install to protect them from this?

I'm in the process of installing CCFL angel eyes in my girlfriend's FX. Same question from above, does cranking the engine while the CCFL's are on damage the units? If it does, then I have to train her not to use the "Auto on lights" feature.

TIA!

Contrary to GMK's illuminating response, I'll say YES

For the CCFL, the answer is essentially 'no', but for LEDs the answer is actually 'maybe'. It depends on the design. If the LED unit is simply using resistors as a current limiter, then a voltage spike during starting can easily overpower the LEDs, damaging them in the process.

No guarantees that's what happened to you, I'm just sayin'...
