Wednesday night, I installed my Alpine 9857 to my AudioControl DQXS X-Over/Eq.
The 9857's 2 volt pre-outs would not even register on the DQXS's input indicators. This morning, I returned the 9857 and ordered the Alpine DVA-9861 which will be shipped on the 14th. The DVA-9861 has 4 volt preouts, which should be beneficial to the low level noise that I was experiencing with the 9857. Also, plays DVD's and has 24-bit DACS. http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/products/prod...?model=DVA-9861
4 Ga. Power wire disconnected until DVA-9861 arrives.

NICE! I thought about getting one of those, since in the past I have used a few Audio Control products. (and I KNOW they make fantastic equipment) I even still have an EQX series 2 sitting in my closet, but with the newer head units now which have most of those features built in I just couldn't justify it.
Back in the day, I used to tune my system to a flat EQ response with an EQX or EQL's for competition, then just adjust bass and treble to my liking up front.
BTW, my older ones used to have adjustable input sensitivity that went from next to nothing to about 12 volts, are you sure you're not just missing an adjustment?
Thanks,
I wanted to incorporate some old school proven components, such as the PPI amps, with some new school stuff. And man, the DQXS and DDC is just that!!!
Originally, I wanted to mount the PPI amps verically, but the trunk hinges got in the way. Then, I wanted to mount them submerged in the sub-flooring that I built, but due to the gas filler tube, I would have to cover up some of the JLAudio 10w6V2 Sub, which I did not want to do.
Oh yeah, I could have tweaked my gains a little more or less, and got rid of the alternator whine, but when my wife heard the alternator whine, I knew that I was going to either get an upgraded head unit or another AudioControl product such as the Matrix Line Driver.
But seriously, no. I had the 9857 at full volume, and the DQXS's input gains would not even max out. Thanks to the AudioControl folks, In the brochure, it states that I may need a line driver if this happens. I read it to my wife and she said that I needed to buy the Matrix Line Driver then. I replied that by the time I buy the line driver and Monster Cables, I might as well buy a head unit with a 4 volt output that will surely take care of my problem.
She remembers back in 1994 when I would compete in Iasca sound offs with a Alpine head unit had 3 volt preouts and never had this trouble. So now we'll both be happy!!

P.S. The Alpine Full Speed connection for IPOD'S is fantastic!!
Oh, and the DDC which I now have unmounted at the moment, in the flip down center console is a tweaker's very happy dream!!!
