Default Lookin for some edumacation...

Im a bit new to engine modifications and never really played around with one of these units. Now guys please dont flame me for asking these questions, I have tried to search on the web and on here bit im still lost.

What exactly is a VAFC and whats the difference from a I & II (obviously being different models and funcitons). How easy is it to tune an AP1 with one of these (as I understand you can get something around 8-12 peak and midrange power, and the 20+ in the final 700 RPMs.). Or is it better just to buy a J's Racing N1 Ecu (or should that be done as well?)?

you could get it tuned stock if you want but i would say atleast get a couple of mods. because the car stock is jus fine. no use in lowering vtec all stock.

my .02 cents

well even if its stock.. from what i read before on previous posts, simply mofidying the stock ecu should net some decent gains up top

the car is "lightly" tracked on lapping days and time trials, just looking to get some gains up top and wondering what this VAFC tuning is all about.

The Vtec Air Fuel Controller is very basic when it comes to tuneability. It taps into the ecu and allows you to adjust the amount of fuel into the engine. The F series motors in the S2000 run a pretty rich air/fuel ratio at WOT and a VAFC allows you to take away fuel resulting in more horsepower. The V part of the name allows you to adjust the Vtec point by 100rpm increments which can smooth out the power curve and gain mid range. You definitely don't need an aftermarket ecu and VAFC because a properly programmed ecu wouldn't need to be tuned. If you were wanting to spend the money on the J's ecu I'd just buy an AEM EMS and have full tuneability. However this would involve a great deal of time on a dyno with a properly credentialed tuner.

as it states above, it's better to dyno tune.. but w/ ur setup- i'll just go w/ vafc and setup vtec to 4200 and ur done.
