Default Looking for a 12v source only when the car is in motion.

I'm trying to find a 12V source in the S when it's in motion and goes to 0V when the speedometer goes to zero. Anyone know of such a line in the S that I could tap off of? Any help will be great! Thanks!

There is some sort of sensor/relay that prevents the top from going up when the car is in motion. You might be able to leverage that circiut for your needs.

The top sensor is actually attached to the parking break, but as far as I'm aware could care less if you are moving or not.

You MAY be able to use a signal from one of the ABS magnetic sensor taps if you're willing to make a simple circuit (although not simple enough for someone who doesn't understand electronics). A simple watchdog circuit with a time of 0.5-1 second would be enough...if you time out, it sets a latch/relay, then resets itself upon start of motion.

The convertible top module uses both the parking brake signal and a speed signal to lock out top operation if the conditions are not right. The speed signal is a 5 volt P-P square wave at a frequency of 1.17 X mph. If you understand that, great, if not, sorry.

If you give me an idea of what you are trying to operate, I could make something that would work off the speed signal, which is easy to get to behind the passenger dash. Of course there is an engineering fee.

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle, never knew they checked speed, too. At what speed does it lock it out?

The two fellas on each side of your post are electronic wizzes. They know more about anything electrical or electronic on the S2000 than anyone else here. They just know!

You believed that crap?

Actually, I was working on some speedo/tach stuff a year or two ago and did some scope traces on the tach and speedometer. I was initially going to use the speedometer as a "nitrous fuel gauge" to show how many seconds of NOS was used, but silly me, I forgot that if you make the speedo display 160 mph it racks up the miles pretty fast. I ended up using the tach instead.

That's when I learned the speedometer will not display over 190 mph. You might think it would at least go to 199, but no, it calls it quits at 190. Beats me.

Thanks guys for all the info!! Acutally, I'm just doing something pretty simple. All I want is to power a light device, but only when the car is moving. Is it possible to run a relay off of the VSS P-P 5V?
