Default Making copy of ap1 key

Hello i'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but does early model ap1s have a chip in the key? I have a 2001 and I was wondering if i could just make a copy at Lowes or home depot. Thanks!

All S2K's, regardless of the year have the immobilizer system.

You can always make a blank key to just open your door locks/trunk at Lowes, but it won't start the car.

However, you will need to go to Honda to program a new transponder key to start your car. This can only be done at Honda. I paid $30 to have one done, including the cost of the key.

About three weeks ago I purchased a transponder key for my 2002 S2000 at Lowe's, the cost was about $25.00. It worked perfectly.
