Default Headrest/ Roll Hoop Speaker Install

Hi y'all -

My setup:
05 AP2
Head unit: sony dsx- s300btx
Door speakers and tweeters: Pioneer
Amp: Pioneer 4 channel
Sub: pioneer I think...check later.

Speaker cables are running thru/under the center console carpeting. Power from the battery is run along the side sills.

Two separate issues.

1) (the most important issue) For some unknown reason, my speakers stopped receiving any signal two days ago. I took out the head unit to check the RCA cable connection, and magically they started working loud and clear. An hour later, having changed nothing, they were dead again. All the connections at the amp look good. The only thing I haven't done yet is take the door panels off to see what's going on at the speaker harness.

2)while I'm here, I figured I'd install my roll hoop speakers too. I have the speakers (infinity reference) and the eBay mounting kit, but no harness. I've look through old threads, and I can't find the 4-pin connector behind the head unit either, but I guess it's there?

My plan is to buy a 4-pin harness (metra 72-7800 on amazon or at best buy), snip off the 4-pin connector, splice on a length of speaker wire to make it from the roll hoops to the OEM connector, solder back on the 4-pin, and then mate that up with the existing OEM 4-pin.

Does that make sense? It seems that the OEM harness is only available as a part of the headrest speaker kit, which I don't need. I just need the wiring.

How have others done this? I'd rather not reinvent the wheel.

Thanks!!

I believe the location of the 4-pin rear speaker harness you are looking for is detailed on page 11 (upper right quadrant of page) of the OEM headrest speaker install linked here. It appears to be to the lower right of the steering column, not directly behind the stereo. I am a little confused by why you would need the speaker level where there is already a 4-ch amplifier providing amplified signals. Are you planning to bridge two channels for a sub later on?
