I had a complex DVD/Videogame/TV system installed in my navigator a few years ago and to be honest, I use the videogame system when I am waiting around for somebody (not often) and I use the DVD/TV whenever I'm on a long trip (also not often). I listen to music ten times as much as these other things so when I do my system for the S2000 I will forgo any video system. My radio does have AUX inputs so I will just put my portable up on the dash and save myself a lot of trouble and money. If you drive all over the country all the time and live in your car, maybe its worth it, but you will most likely find using a portable DVD sufficient.

MikeS2K: Thanks for posting! I am still in awe of your install... so are most of the car audio installers here in town!... I have had several sportscars/ sportcompacts now and figure this will probably be my last (i gotta have a family someday)..and while i hope and fully intend on keeping this vehicle, i want to personalize it as well as i have on all my other cars....being a movie and music fanatic, i've always wanted to do mobile video in a car but wanted it to be in a car i planned on keeping for awhile (i've had 4-5 cars this year alone: 00 gsr, 94 supra TT, 93 MR2-T, 97 Prelude, 02 S2000)... I'm having a difficult time deciding which route to go with this car and want to do everything right the first time...

If you want a portable dvd player, get a laptop. If I was doing a mobile video setup in any car, I would try minipc and have it all; dvd, nav, mp3, and a big screen. I forgot, engine management.

Draco, my installer mentioned your type of install that he would like to do for my car. He did the same in his CR-V. He has the kenwood 7'' touch-screen. I didn't like his idea. I think the monitor will not hold strongly at speeds when u have the top down and u will get everyones attention.

Actually, after all was taken into consideration....i went with the dash...I want to thank MikeS2k for the idea and for his great pics and hope that he doesn't consider it a take-off of what he was doing.... i just felt that a lot of what people said on here was correct and thought that visibility where they wanted to put it would be bad...i will be getting it back tomorrow...if anyone wants me to post pics..let me know... by the way grand total for:
Panasonic cd/dvd player (looks like regular aftermarket cd players and fits in the din opening where are current stereo is)
7" widescreen tv
PAC module to keep the dash controls
and labor
totaled: $1368... not bad, i thought ... i will look into installing nav. later when the prices on them drop a bit.

Draco...$1368 for the setup that Mike has??? Wow!!!! I want to go with that setup also. Will it come out the same way Mike's car is?? One more question, is the TV touch screen?

Speedracer: No, you have to understand that Mike used all premium components and spared no expense..in no way am i comparing what i did to his.... my screen is not a touch screen because i didn't have a need for it yet due to not having a nav. system...again, my set up is only good for playing dvd's right now, i will consider upgrading in the future if nav. prices drop... mike has a lot more in his car for what he paid for... he has a 6 disc dvd changer, nav, aftermarket speakers, alpine cd player, alpine screen, etc. etc. etc.... as far as the quality...i should be finding out in a couple of hours ...i will post pics.

Got the car back! - First thing he said was that he'd never do another one..he said it was a huge pain in the ass and that he seriously underbid me in the labor estimate.... i have to bring it back on Tues. for him to touch up a few things and for him to install the PAC harness for me to use the dash controls...they messed up just a bit on part of the vynal on the dash that seems to bubble just a little right above the tv but said he was going to work on that on tues. also...my only other complaint is that due to the low location of the tv, it woud look a bit better if it were actually angled up (just a bit dark otherwise)...which i may or may not look into later.... i think they did a pretty good job..i'll post pics. and more info when he is completely done working on it.
