Default Motormusic bezel install

Does anyone know what would be the best way to cut the dash and install this bezel? It's a custom made bezel for an Alpine TME-M770 screen.

Normally you could ask Motormusicinc but since 1 July they are out of business. I think they have been taken over by another company.

My thoughts were to cut the dash in an X. In that case you will have 4 flaps that can be bent inwards so the edges will be clean. than the bezel can be slid in.
But how to attach it to the flaps? Tape it?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! (and sorry for my English, i'm Dutch)

Yuri

Sorry mate, but it was a big hassle to get mine finished. They sent it to me on their last day of business.

If they're starting up another business or going further under another name I don't know.

But how do you think this bezel should be installed then?

post a picture of the bezel from the side...i think it just slides in...i would cut the hole in the dash a little smaller so that it will fit snug...

That's ok Darkdude, everyone makes fun of us so .... whatever

I can't upload another pic I took myself but I inserted the eventual result in my first post.

And yes Guedo512, it indeed has sides to it so sliding it in is definately an option.

When you cut the dash, is it possible to cut away the layers behind it and leave the front so the finishing is better?

Make a small X with an Exatco-knife and peel the vinyl back from the dash pad...the rest is all air tools and praying!

That's what I think too Mike, thanks.
By the way, nice setup you have. I'm also installing an Alpine HU (DVA-9860).

Yuri!
I apologize for not being able to contact you. Yes, Motor Music was recently sold to another owner. All of us ( the installers that created the bezel and all the installs you have seen) have been either let go, or quit. Also my ability to answer emails was gone as well. Im glad you received your bezel in good time.

As for installation instructions:
Step 1: place the bezel on a piece of paper and trace an outline of the bezel. This will now be known as TEMPLATE ONE

step 2. measure 1/2" inside the first outline. Created another outline so that the second outline should now be 1/2" smaller than the actual bezel. This will now be known as TEMPLATE TWO

Step3. cut out the middle of the second smaller outline (TEMPLATE TWO). This is your template to cut the dash with.

Step 4. after you have cut the dash, now is the time to use the first outline of the bezel ( the one that you traced using the bezel as a template) and center it. This will be where the second cut is going to be. After you have measured and centered the TEMPLATE ONE, you want to mark it.

Step5. After you have finished marking it, you want to use a blunt object like a butter knife or putty knife in seperating the outside vinyl skin of the dash from the harder plastic foundation underneath it. After you have done this, you want to slice each corner from the cut off area to where you have marked the TEMPLATE ONE markings. Then peal the skin back.

Step6. Now you need to cut the rest of the dash's foundation (harder plastic thats now exposed) to conform with TEMPLATE ONE's dimensions. keep in mind that you DO NOT WANT TO CUT THE VINYL SKIN!! Just the harder plastic stuff.

Step 7. Now that you have cut out the dash to match TEMPLATE ONE's dimensions, you want to fold vinyl dash skin back into the hole. This will create a clean seam. slide the bezel into the hole and line everything up. If the cuts are done correctly, the fitment of the bezel should be very tight. If its loose, you will need to see the note below.

Note: The bezel was designed to be held in place by friction so make sure your cuts are dead on. Secondary securing points are brackets secured to the backside of the bezel. This is optional. I hope this helps and as we have spoken before, I highly advise you to bring the bezel to a specialist to do as they not only have the insurance to buy you a new dash if they FUBAR it, but would more than likely understand how it would be installed. Also keep in mind: Check&measure 3 times, cut it just once.

Good luck and PM me if you have any questions.
