Default Mounting Amp In Spare Tire Location

Hey guys,

I know I've seen threads on this before, but I can't find any now, and the search keeps coming up with 0 hits. Soooo... maybe someone can help.

I remember seeing someone was selling a precut peice of MDF that fit exactly where the spare tire goes. I'd like to mount my amp there, so I was just looking for dimensions and/or blueprints of that amp deck.

Anyone know who was selling those things?

- Andy

I don't think it's too tough. Have you taken out the tire and measured/sketched it out real quick? I pulled out the tire and bracket for my installer and he just put a board in using the stock hole for the spare tire bracket as one of the posts and threw some carpet over it. The area looked pretty flat (the tire has to lay flat afterall...) and he said it was "easy" to construct. I'll post pictures when I can.

P.S. I couldn't find it on search either, sorry.

I know this is a little late. But, it may help you and others. You can get corrogated plastic from just about any sign supply house. Here are a couple good ones:

www.denversignsupply.com
www.rjsign.com

I used to own a sign shop and have ordered from both companies. Most cities have a supply house too and local pick-up would eliminate the shipping charge.

Some other good potential substrates are:

PVC sheets - They cut just like wood. They can be heated with a heat gun and bent, and it is fairly light weight. It also comes in various thinknesses.

Alumilite - Corrogated plastic sandwiched between 2 sheet of aluminum. It is very strong and light weight.

I would say the PVC could be an excellent choice because of it's flexibility. If you have a metal brake, it can be easily bent with heat and the bend is permanent. It is a little pricey though. You may be surprised how cheap corrogated plastic is in 4X8 sheets.

PM me if you have any questions.
