Default mounting an ipod in cockpit

Hi All,

I'm looking to bring my ipod into my S2k, and am getting really frustrated with the options that are out there.

Are there any vent-mounted or dash-mounted options that are worth anything?
The best place I could see would be to have a bracket hang off the HVAC controls - right at eye level, hands off the wheel for a minimum of time, not obstructing anything else.

Other consideration would be a bracket that mounts into the flip-down door where the stereo is. Not ideal, but I'd do it.

I *do not* want a cupholder mount - right where my shifting arm is. I have a 2000 model, so it only has that single-cup mount anyway...

Has anyone used the Pro-clip mount that has the ipod sitting between their leg and the shifter?

Any other good ideas out there that I may want to try?

Thanks in advance!

Gooseneck from up in the passenger footwell, a la Dave's (NRFNYC2000) screen?

inside the glove box? There is a rumor about an Alpine HU that will control the iPod directly.

Thanks - I just ordered from arkon.com - they have a ton of solutions, and have a gooseneck that bolts to the forward screw for the seat-track. I ordered a dual-holder so I can hold my ipod and treo from one place. We'll see how it works.

Yes, I heard about the Alpine thing. You can google "alpine", "ipod", and come up with their press release from CES, but their website is hush. It is going to be an AI-Net controller for their Head Units, and looks GREAT. I got tired of waiting, basically. Supposed to be end of summer, but who knows.

Thanks again,
bill

PS - I'd really like to hard-wire these things in, rather than have a bunch of car-lighter cords running all over. Anyone have any ideas?

Here was my solution - Not sure if it's something you'd be interested in or not, but FWIW...

Gooseneck might be a bit overkill for the IPOD. Its meant to hold 6 pounds, not 6 ounces.

Go to home depot (or lowes, whatever)....and get a bracket, and screw it into the panels on the left or right of the radio...(where your right knee is, or the passenger's left knee)....the panel where the switch is.

That piece isnt expensive to replace....so not to worry. Goosenecks are almost 60 bucks, so I dont think its the best idea for an IPOD.

Sleepy - that is SWEET!!!!!! Very clean, and I like the matching leather sleeve for the ipod!

I'm doing a cross-country road trip and really want the ipod accessible, so I want it out in front of me while driving.

I got the Arkon gooseneck (arkon.com, model 625). It screws on to the bolt for the drivers or passengers seat track, so a solid mount with no drilling, and easily removed.

The 625 is the bolt-on gooseneck, and the 2nd picture is the bracket they are selling me for it that allows me to have my ipod _and_ treo on the same gooseneck. We'll see how it works.

625 gooseneck was $34.95 and the extra bracket (t-bar and other mount) was an additional $15.

We'll see how it works, I'm not convinced till I try it out. The vinyl cover over the gooseneck allows for running the power/1.5 jack up the wire for a "cleaner" install...

Thanks, badkins!

Once you have it all hooked up, definitely want to see some pix. Sounds like your solution will be a good one, to be sure!

I have both the panavise & proclip mounts.

panavise (mounts onto radio) w/ proclip adjustable ipod holder for the ipod. just barely gets in way of the radio door (but still opens/closes) no problems w/ passengers so far.

proclip center console mount w/ ipaq gps holder. Its ok but not perfect. leaves room for shifter but feels "cramped". gets more in the way of the ignition.
