Default Mp3 Player

Could anyone tell me if i could attach a portable MP3 player to my stock radio head unit. Has anyone even done this before? I have a 2002 s2k and on the radio their is a button for AUX. Could I possibly use this for a connection? Any input is welcome. Thanks!

I've been trying to do this for a while now. The Aux button on the 2002 stereo is for the optional cd changer I'm afraid. Unless there is some sort of interface, that I don't know about, the simple answer is no.

I've tried using an inline FM modulator, but that also requires a switch to allow you to switch back to radio as the modulator overrides any other radio signal. The quality is only as good as FM radio.

I've now given up on that idea and have ordered an Alpine headunit and an aux interface for it. Hopefully that will work as I intended.

The only other suggestion I've had is to buy a cheap tape head unit and use one of those dummy tape interfaces. then sell your old head unit to offset the cost.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but I hope it helps anyway.

I have a RioRiot and wanted to connect it to the stock unit, but I couldn't find a good solution. I ended up replacing the head unit with a JVC SH909 which has a connection right on the front of the unit to connect the MP3 player. It also has a connector in the rear if I choose to run the cable under the dash.

Too bad there's no input on the front of the stock head unit!

Well if there is a demand I can build a kit designed to plug into the cd changer AUX In.

well $50 or less depends on the cost of a new OEM piece. I'm not into recycling or asking for core pieces (condition of them vary)and because people like to go back to stock. Its easier to produce with new pieces, I'll spec out the prices and see.

I'm planning on running the aux input (on my aftermarket head unit) to the 'glove box', so I have somewhere to store my iPod when I plug it in.
