Wanted to bring this back to the top. Lucid, if you could design an input device i am sure you would have more than enough buyers.

For now, I have found a solution. You can use an FM Modulator and plug that into the antenna of the stock head unit. They normally use these units for portable CD players were you can tune your car radio to 88.9 FM or something like that and it will pick up on the signal sent from the MP3 player. Sound quality is sacrificed though, it sounds like your listening to the radio instead of CD quality sound. It is a solution though.

Lucid, I'd buy it in a heartbeat (and it would probably force my getting around to buying your rear speaker mod as well

100% count me in. I would really like some way to plug my portable mp3 player into my stock MY02 head unit. Please keep me in mind if you make something.

An aux port for the stock head under at around $50? Sounds good to me!

i have a connection like this on my jvc head unit as mentioned earlier in the thread. its 1 of the reasons that i got the unit and after using once or twice i stopped for the following
u now have a longish wire and mp3 player flopping arround in your cramped s2k. u have to disconnect it every time you leave the car if u want to stop inquiring minds from breaking in 2 your car. even the wire can draw unneeded attention from those curious about what else might b inside.
Now, if u are gonna stick with the oem hu i guess this still might be worth the $50. Do yourself a favor, i paid $275 for my jvc installed myself. We have a large audio/stereo store here that would sell u the unit and install it free. And they do clean work and this car is an easy install. once u have a modern head unit that can hold 13-15 of your favorite cd's in mp3 or wmf format on a single recordable cd u will have no need to plugin in your mp3 player at all!! U can then save the battery for what u originally got the player for, in my case tunes while mtn biking and weight lifting.

well if u don't mind fillin up your only inside storage 'glove box', go right ahead and then whats your plan for controlling it or using outside the car w/o the hassle of removing it every time. if u think it will live in the car alot go buy a real solution if you have sold yourself on it anyway who am i to change your mind, enjoy!
