My first attempt at building a system.
Cathan,
I'm not an audio expert but I think that the Audiobahn you linked to should work. If I understand the specs right; You would have 125W available to each of the front channels assuming that your components are a 4 ohm load. and if you bridged the rear two channels you would have 1000W for a 1 ohm load. If you do like I did and use a dual 2 ohm voice coil wired in series you will have a 4 ohm load but since the amp is bridged it will be seen as a 2 ohm load. Thus I presume that you would actually have 500W available to the sub with the rear channels bridged. Which would be way more than you will need for the JL 8W3 series sub, all versions of which are only rated for 125W continuous power handling. If you went with this amp and the 8W3 sub you might be better off getting the 4 ohm dual voice coil version. This would give, as seen from the bridged amp, a 4 ohm total load with the voice coils wired in series, which would give 250W to the sub. Still more than enough. I think that since your willing to spend some cash on this system you should probably look at a sub with higher power handling if you use a 4 channel amp.

So if I understand this correctly, if I went with the Alphasonic which is rated for 250 watts at 4 ohms, I'd be fine using this amp because bridged it can give me 250 watts at 4 ohms. I don't need more power? Hope not, because it seems that between the focals and sub, the amp appears to be a good match.
I think you'd want a little more for the sub, it's rated at 300 RMS. Like I said, my amp runs pretty hot and I'm sending my sub just over 300W, but I'm also underpowering my speakers slightly, so the combination is quite a load on the amp.
With 300W though, the sub sounds amazing, and it'll be crisper (and thus better for your brand of music) if its powered properly.

KK. Think I may go back to the drawing board on the single amp to drive both the sub and front speakers idea. Hard part is that there seems to be so much cool stuff out there.
A single amp is definately doable...I have a single amp right now driving my system, but I need a more powerful one in the long run I think. But it does sound really good, even with my front speakers slightly underpowered.

Jeff - What amp are you using right?
I thought about getting a four channle amp and bridging a pair for the sub, but don't know enough about it to figure out what amp to get.
Would something like this Audiobahn work?
