Well...the thing is I gave them both equal chances, but the Ostia software was just that much better in NYC. I can download all traffic, etc in seconds, and the re-route is a bit faster, but again, Navis do vary from place to place.

Also, the proclip is just a clip holder, the Seidio is a charger as well (hardwired)

Yeah, I have had no luck with a charging mount for the Dell.

-The Seidio broke in a week.
-Tom Tom kit was broken when it arrived - took 3 months to get a credit from Amex since TomTom never replied to emails and the phone just rang off the hook...lousy - I will never buy a product from them and I recommend everyone else steer clear
-Arkon - too generic, it works, just bulky
-Proclip lets me just slide the dell in and since there are no connections I just use the belkin car charger and it works

I just had bad luck - I also had a first gen Seidio mount.

I bought the Dell Axim X30 specifically for in car nav use. Haven't got the nav system yet (Navman 4410 in Aus) but have had the Axim in the car for WARdriving.

I find the screen almost unreadable with the roof off. Do you have the same issue?

Around 11AM to 1PM when the sun is high it is a problem. I don't have a problem the rest of the day.

I have the X5, which has a worse screen - I imagine the X30 and X3 would have better and clearer screens.

**Oatnet - if it is illegal that means all in car navigation systems are illegal, nothing is different that I am aware of between the two. They had navigation systems in the Odysseys at Honda World at the Megameet...

If you get glare resistant screen sticker thingies, it should be better, but generally, yes. Luckily, the speaker is good, so I just use the audio for guidance.

In California, it is illegal to have any display up front that _could_ show anything other than Navigation info while rolling - even if while rolling you only have navigation up on the screen. If you have an e-brake lockout installed that restricts it to navi you are OK, don't know of this existing for PDA based systems. In any case a dash-mount PDA is an alert to LA's Swinest, just like not having a front license plate.

And if you get in an accident while such an illegal device is installed - bend over and prepare to be boarded!

Edit:

Here is a link to the actual law. Video signal is interpreted by the courts to mean any kind of display, computer, PDA, smartphone, etc.
