It's not just the distance from the woofer IMO, the sound stage will suck because all but the mid-bass are behind your head. You will not have a good sound stage and the imaging will be quite bad. Mids and highs are very directional, the low end isn't so much.

Basically if you close your eyes you will picture youself at a concert, walking AWAY from the stage. Not the best config in my opinion.
Well said. This is not even close to an ideal solution, better two-ways will sound far superior.

You'll need to custom fab them into the door. taking a 3-way setup and seperating them is not what your suppose to do. You should return them and get the right gear for your car. Or better yet get a membership and try and sell them in the forsale forum.

You could have custom door panels made for them.... very expensive but very cool. Might cost about $600-800 for custom door panels.

I'd go for the custom door panels, doesn't sound bad to have bass in your cabin since the sub will lose a lot of power before you "hear" it in the cabin.
I'd put the mid on the original speaker place, put the bass close to the mid but in the direction of the trunk, the high i would put in the original space of the tweeter and if you have a 00 or 01, in the pillar of the frontwindow...

I believe that's the "best" thing to do with a seperated 3 way system.
Custom door panels are necessary, if you can work with poly, you can do it yourself...
And I would really like to see how that looks like

I built these for my car. You could do the same thing as this design but add the extra speaker next to the 6.5 .

I've had a 3 way component setup before, the old Boston Acoustic Pro 6.43's and they do sound great...but the only way to do it is by customizing the door. If you have the time/energy/money, it would be a really nice mod and make your car a little more unique since I haven't seen anyone else do it yet. DK's panels look GREAT! Like everyones said, breaking them up and putting the mids and tweets in s-pods would sound awful.
