Default My Sound System Setup (Please Comment)

This setup is similar to Kelvin's (What The!) setup. Practically identical actually.

Alpine CDA-7995
2 JL Audio 10w3's Sub
1 JL Audio 500/1 Amp
1 JL Audio 300/4 Amp
1 Focal 165K2 Speakers

What do you people think? Is the 300/4 Amp too much power for the focals and the deck?

Thanks in advance.

There's no such thing as too much power.

What are you using to power the subs? At first glance, I thought it was the 500/1, but that's only one channel...so now I'm assuming it's 2 channels off the 300/4, but then, what are you gonna use the 500/1 for?

The 300/4 will be to power the Focal 165k2s and the amp. But the focals only put out 200 watts as the amp is 300. I'm not positive if i will be adding anything else in the future, but currently, i'm not planning on it.

Still a bit confused...the 500/1 amp only has one channel, so (as far as I know at least), it can only power one sub...

Bridging is taking 2 channels from an amp and wiring it to one sub effectively doubling the wattage you are supplying the sub. This wouldn't apply in your case where you have a 1-channel amp...

How many speakers are you putting in?

Hmmm...it sounds to me like you're going to take 2 channels from the 300/4 for the speakers, then the other 2 for each of the amps...at this point, the 500/1 is not needed....

What i think is planned is wiring the subs in series (connect one of the subs negative and connect it to the other subs positive then taking the open terminals
to the amp.) I could be wrong.

Oh dear oh dear...

Speakers don't "put out" power, they take it in, and in return they make sound. Having an amplifier whose wattage exceeds that of the speakers is not a problem, and in most cases, is a good thing. You'll end up running the amplifier at less than its maximum capacity which means it will run cooler and provide better sound quality along the way.

An amplifier doesn't care how many subs it's powering, only what its load is. It's not worth our time to get into the details but it suffices to say the 500/1 is an excellent choice for your chosen subwoofers, as would be the 1000/1.

The components you have selected are all very good and should work well together to form a superb sound system. But components is only half of what makes the system sound great. The other half is the quality on the install. Based on what I'm seeing here I strongly suggest you have a professional sound shop do the installation.

Enjoy!
