I just ordered my CD/MP3 Player:

Head Unit: JVC KD-SH99 - $270

Front Speakers: MB Quart RSC-216 (Already Installed) - $280

Amp: Rockford Fosgate 800.4 Amp - $320

Subwoofer: Undecided. Thinking about these -

88120Ti Eclipse

Kicker 12 L7 (I have this sub in my prelude and love it)

MB Quart PWD 304

PAC SWI-X & misc Stinger accessories.

The box is custom made fiberglass at our shop at Diablo. More info as I get further into the project this week.. I have the next two weeks off so the project will progress soon.

Chris,

How about some JL subs. The new 10W7 kick some serious ass. I'm gonna go a little unconventional when I get my S2K. I'm gonna go with the 6W0. These 6" subs hit very hard for such small subs.

Hi Ozy,
Don't know if you've seen it, but check a thread on my system - I used some of the items you have listed.
I can't comment on the rest of your setup or the other subs, but I can say that the Eclipse 88120 is deserving of much more power than half of an 800.4. My whole 800a4 (last year's model w/equal power) is dedicated to the sub, and it could still make use of more. Were I to do it over, I would've gotten a purpose-built sub amp, like the Power 1000 or 1500bd, or a Soundstream Tarantula were I really nuts.
The other subs you mention probably aren't as power hungry as the Eclipse and would be better choices given the 400W you have to play with.

The W7 would kick some ass, if JL would ever release it. I've only ever used JLs in the past, but went with the Eclipse because I got tired of waiting around for them...it was supposed to be out months ago!

Hope this helps a little,

Jason

You are picking some great components... but why not the MB Quart Q-series? I was actually impressed by those (if Dynaudio didn't exist... and they came in a 3-way... I would have bought them).

You seem to have a fair budget, why not get "great" speakers? Just curious...

I got the Amp and Sub today. I decided to go with the model right under the Titanium series.

Santoprene Surround
Aluminum Cone
Dual Mirror-Image Spiders
Aluminum Voice Coil Former
"Bottomless" Design
Aero-Vented Pole Piece
Cast Aluminum Frame
Double-Stacked Magnet
Small Sealed-Box Enclosure
Continuous Power Handling: 500W
Music Power Handling: 1,000W

The difference in price was extreme, and I really don't need all that SPL. I want a tight clean sound. Picked up my 800.4, its paper rates it at 1216w all driven into 2ohm load.

My headunit and PAC arrive tomorrow and the install begins. I am going to wire the front channels to the MB Quart giving them 100rms each, and then bridge the rear two channels mono and feed it into the sub giving it 400w rms. I am using Stinger stuff for the wiring and the 1 ferad cap. More info / pics as it progresses.

Hey, just to get myself up to date on technology. Can a car MP3 player play MP3's straight off of a CD-R?

Yesterday I got the amp up and running w/ the internal speakers, the JVC head unit installed and the PAC functional. The amp is not in its final location because the trunk is way not finished. We begain laying the fiberglass. We finished 3 layers today. At 3 layers, before we triimmed the top of the box, it weighed in at 11lbs. Pretty nice.

We are finished for now. I'm going to let that dry and we are leaving for Sema bright and early on Monday. I'll resume this project next weekend.

The install is coming along.

After trimming the excess fiberglass

Testing the fit before attaching the MDF to the box.

Box before floor cover built

Box + Sub weighs 50lbs before fiberfill and false floor. Its up an running in my car now to test the box before going any further incase we have to perform major changes to fix sound issues. Not much rattling, just a tad in my top well when the top is up.

More soon.
