My V-1 Install in all my s2000's over the years
I guess this is my first contribution on the electronics page so bear with me if the pics are not that great...hahaha
These pics are from my now *sold 2005 Rio S2000. The setup is similiar to what I have in my new 09 GPW s2000 and NSX. This type of install works on any car that has a low roofline (e.g. NSX, Audi TT, Lotus, S2000, etc.)
Concept is quite simple: the main unit has a volume control and directional arrows that tells you not only how many "bogey" threats there are but where it's coming from. People who own one will tell you how invaluable this is! You get front and rear radar and laser detection so it's critical you mount the unit to get a clear line of sight front and back. If you notice where my main unit is mounted, it's perfectly midship. The display is blacked out when you plug in the remote display. I put mine up in the upper pillar near the driver's side with a custom bracket. It's angled to the driver and no people behind you can't see it. I've seen remote displays mounted low in the center console and in my opinion that is dangerous since the faster you go, the less likely you want to take your eyes off the road!
I also added the optional remote volume control (see pic near right leg) which allows me full control of volume and mute so I don't have to reach around my shoulder. This unit even has a optional headphone jack...haha
In a convertible theft is a major issue so when you leave the car, the V1 main unit simply detaches with velcro and you can lock it away. The wiring disappears behind the passenger seat when not in use. The remote display and volume control stays put.
You can outfit each car with a remote display, hardwire setup along with volume control but only buy one MAIN UNIT.
enjoy,
rick

That particular install (and there are others who have done this as well) is especially helpful to the guy behind you. Others had put black tape over the lights on the main unit to conceal it during use. HPH

that install is awesome! i love it. also you found a really good place to put the remote unit. i got a question though. where did you get your key? i've been looking for one like that for a while. Or even the Key that comes up in the top right sometimes where the random s2ks appear.

No way. The main unit blacks out when the remote display is used. So no problems there.
Display automatically blacks out when you plug in the remote display so no worries there!
Don't even know where I got that s2000 key logo from - good eye!
Nice m3 Eric....haha - yeah see ya soon. We have 2 new E60 m5's at the shop right now that you might want to check out. It seems the trend has been moving from e46 m3's to new e60 m5's these days.
