my V1 isnt working right
i have a valentine 1 radar that i have had for about 3 years. it has always worked perfectly however about a month ago i drove by a portable radar unit on the side of the road that shows you your speed. usually my radar goes crazy from one of these but not even a single beep. i have driven by many others and its always the same result, no beeps. the V1 still reads other radar signals like automatic doors and other signals. just wondering what you guys think. thanks
I've had this same thing happen, more than once. When I lived in New Mexico, there was a at the entrance to the Albuquerque airport that would sometimes set my V1 off and sometimes not -- but it always registered a reasonably accurate speed. And there was one here on my daily commute for a while.
MacGyver's pop-variant theory is attractive (particularly because my V1 hasn't been upgraded), but it begs the question: How does the unit know you're coming so that it can do a pop burst (that's too quick for the V1 to catch)? Continuous, or repeated, pop bursts? Police can use pop radar because they see the car coming and can turn on the speed sensing radar unit. How do these roadside units see the car coming?
I thought my V1 was broken there for a while because of this. But it seems fine otherwise.
One way to test this pop theory is to see if it happens more when you're the only car on the road (i.e., there's no one between you and the unit).
Anyway, it's a puzzle to me. HPH

Constant POPping
A nice play on words, but it's the most likely solution. Short bursts will just as accurately tell the speed, but each one is too short to allow the detector to lock on...
