Default Need Help With Amplifier Sizing

Head unit = Sony CDX-M9905X:
23.2 watts RMS/52 peak x 4 channels
4-volt front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs

Speakers = MB Quart QSD216 tweeter + midrange with crossovers (for the doors):
Impedance: 4 Ohms
Frequency Response: 35-32k
Sensitivity: 85.5 dB
Power Range: 90-170 watts
Crossover Freq: 2400Hz Hz

***I don't want to connect rear speakers, but I may want to add a sub in the future***

What is the maximum power I should get in an amp, and how many channels do I really need?

THANKS!!

-Pete

PS- Right now I'm looking at the Alpine MRV-F540 or RF Punch 700X.

The Alpine will be perfect for your needs. You can run the fronts off the front channel and bridge the rears and use them for the sub.

Thanks!

I know from searching previous posts that you are very knowledgable and skilled regarding ICE setups. (I just finished reading the thread about fabricating the custom enclosures for the trunk!)

Here are the specs on the Alpine:

14.4V RMS Continuous Power 2 ohm; Stereo 100x4 Bridged 4ohm; 200W x 2
12V RMS Continuous Power 4 ohm; Stereo 50Wx4 2ohm; Stereo 70x4 Bridged 4ohm; 140W x 2

I would like to purchase an amp that takes full advantage of the speaker's power rating. I can afford to go bigger, if the speakers will handle it.

If you can afford to go more you may even consider the Alpine MRV-F545(its a newer version... but you can't get them yet but... so you can try these:

1. Infinity Reference 5760a
148 watts RMS x 2 + 287 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mode

2. Audiobahn A4125HCT
# 4 Ohms Stereo : 125 x 4
# 2 Ohms Mono : 500 x 2

3. Alphasonik PMA4150A
# 150 Watts x 4 @ 4 ohms Stereo
# 460 Watts x 2 @ 4 ohms Mono

THe alpha would be my choice, but be careful, MBs dont like to be overpowered, and 90% of MBs are 93wrms. (I spoke to them directly a few years ago)

You can get a good deal on the audiobahn if you look around.

USE THE ALINE and no dont bridge to run a sub!!!! get another amp for that. what you want to do is run your back speakers off the deck and put one channel to each tweeter and one to each woofer!! it will sound reallly awesome. i work at ultimate electronics and i have customers do that all the time and they love it! trust me its what you want to do
