oh yeah to make the mute button work you need a relay... but what if i dont want to go through all that trouble? can i just leave the resistor out and still make all the other buttons work?

Here's another possible option: return it and buy a Modifry DCI.

I hope this doesn't come across as sarcastic. It's just a really good piece of kit.

Is it possible to bypass the relay and attach instead to the attentuator wire?

I seem to have read that someone did this. It was in an earlier post.
