Default Need a new Battery. Red top or Yellow top?

I don't really understand the difference between the Ultima Red top and the Ultima Yellow top batteries. It seems most junkies go for the yellow top. The red top is a little cheaper, more MUCH more importantly it matches my color scheme better.

Do I need the yellow, or can I get away with the red?

You can get away with the red. It actually has a more CCA but doesn't drain as deep as the yellow will. But your system isn't to crazy with tons of subs and amps so a red top should be fine.

According to the optima site, this is the battery for the S2000, you may want to contact a dealer to confirm...

Available at many retailers: Part Number: YEL51
CCA: 500
Model Name: Optima
Battery Group Size: 51

This part of the site, would explain the difference:

You don't have to use that exact one I didn't. You can use the bigger size you just need to get a new battery tray and new tie down bar.

Well, I went and looked for batteries, and found out that the Group 51 Yellow Top is on national backorder as aparently it's a common size for military veihicles.

I had to go to 6 or 7 stores before I found one, but I did settle on the Yellow Top. I installed it and ALL my woes went away. The car starts MUCH better. It idles better. The parking lights no longer flicker with the bass. Even power delivery while driving seems improved.

I may find a way to hide the battery like a plastic cover or something, but for now I am going to leave it.

Thanks again, for the help guys!

glad it worked out...

like John said -- the difference between the 2 isn't phenomenal. the yellowtop gets more attention here b/c it can deep cycle better than the red. but the red is a better battery for daily use (assuming you're not drawing hugely).
