Need opinions on Kicker AMP for $299
FRYs is selling a 'Kicker' AMP for $299... It has 4 channel out + sub (with cross-over built in). It claims 4x40watts RMS (I dunno the sub power output).
I am getting a 2002 (had a 2000), and already have upgraded speakers (not a sub [dunno if I will])... But the new deck is 'supposed' to be 30watts/channel output (peek or RMS, I have no idea, probably peek).
** I'm NOT after booming sound, I'm after 'clean' sound. If it booms AND is clean, fine... but I don't want just a 'rap' mobile..
I was wondering if for $299:
(A) Is it going to really make a difference in power/sound? This baby is like 14 inches long, 8 inches wide..so its a big-amp (size wise...not that size matters /lol)
(B) Is $299 a good price?

$219 bucks if I want the amp... So, for $219... should I get it?? And I'm not sure it really has a sub-out now..

This amp will blow the doors off of any head unit amp. The 2002 OEM is likely rated at 30x2 peak, meaning it's probably in the neighborhood of 10-12 RMS. The IX404 is a straight 4 channel amp with 40x4 RMS, the IX405D is a 4+1 amp with a 200x1 RMS in addition to the 40x4.
Do you have rear speakers? Or are you bi-amping a set of seperates? If neither, why are you looking at a 4 channel amp?
My 2 cents: You can get the IX404 for $299 from Crutchfield (the IX405D is $529). Before you send off $220 to some company you've never heard of on the web, think about what you're giving up... Not saying Crutchfield or Fry's is the best route, but just finding the absolute lowest price usually isn't the best route either. If cost is an absolute issue, look at a different brand - Kicker amps are pricey for the watts you get.
