Need some help with a glitchy system...
Hi everyone,
I seem to be having some problems with my amp and/or sub. I did have an Alpine Type-E running off of my Soundstream Van Gogh 400.2 amp (bridged 400w rms @ 4ohm) which was definately too much power for that sub.
Long story short, I blew the sub in about 2 days. For some reason it took the fuse at the distro block when it blew also, but my other 400.2 driving the kappa perfect components was still working fine.
Anyhow, I went ahead and ordered an Alpine Type-R and hooked it up today. Everything seems fine until I turn the bass up real loud and then the amp starts cutting out totally (even the amp light goes out).
Now, I know these amps have two protectors built into them. If there is a wire that it senses that is grounding out, it will shut the amp off. Like wise, if there is too much impedence on the speaker wire, it will shut the amp off.
If the amp works fine at lower volumes, I wouldn't think it would be any wires grounding out. Would blowing the speaker really badly (I think I fried the voicecoil) cause the speaker wire to melt somehow? Any ideas why my amp would be cutting out at only loud volumes?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Ok, just discovered something. The new sub I bought is a 4ohm dual voice coil. Based on the wiring diagram, I have it wired for a 2ohm load. The amp is supposed to be 2x200w rms @ 2ohm or 400x1rms@4ohm.
Strange thing is, there are only two wiring diagrams in the instructions for running one amp (bridged in my case), one for 2ohm and one for 8ohm. How the heck am I supposed to wire this thing?? Am I supposed to wire up both channels instead of bridgeing the amp?

Ok, sorry for not searching. I just got a little panicked.
Based on this post, it seems the best thing for me to do is wire this thing up in stereo (of course the deck has the sub out set to mono)?
