Thumbs up Need some help with my setup

Hey guys, I need some help with my setup:

Currently, I'm running a Kenwood KDC-X993 Headunit with Morel Tempo 6.5" Component speakers. These are being powered by a Powerzone Crunch 1400.4 Amplifier. (The amp claims 1400W and it's 4 channels)

I was wondering, since this is a 4 channel amp and I am using 2 channels for the component speakers, could I bridge the other two channels and wire that to a subwoofer?

I'm looking to get a 10" JL Audio Sub in the S, any suggestions? I listen to a lot of rap and I like hard hitting deep bass.

Yes, you should be able to bridge the other 2 channels to power a sub.

Yes, just change the "Mode" switch to 3 and you should be good to go.

I don't have enough experience with JL subs to recommend one, but I would guess that you can get something just as good for a lot less money.

Well, thats not a very good amp.
Its rms rating is 87.5w x4 @4ohms.
Essentially your comps are getting 87.5w to each speaker and I don't know what you'll get once you bridge the other 2 channels but it can't be much.
The manual say 350w x 2 bridged so supposeably you're getting 350w to your sub

True, but he didn't ask if it was a good amp, just if he could bridge channels 3/4.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure my amp only has a selector for 2/4 channels. I have to double check, but I think it's like that. I would obviously have to operate in the 4 channel mode, just that when I wire I bridge 3/4, which would give me channel 1 and 2 components and 3/4 bridged for the sub all operating under 4 channel mode, correct?

He didn't ask but my point is that I don't think bridging the other 2 channels is powerful enough to drive a decent sub.

I know my amp can drive a subwoofer, and speakers can't be blown by underpowering so I think I'm good to go. I know a couple of people that are driving a 500W RMS subwoofer with only around 150W and they sound really decent.

Well, distortion is what usually blow speakers when you turn your volumn too high.
And distortion is what you get when you don't have enough power driving your speakers if you turn the volumn up.
