Default Need Suggestions on Changing System

Here's the current set up:

1) Clarion 745
2) Focal 165KPs and additional Focal tweeters
3) Audison LrX2.250 (on mids/highs)
4) MMATS 700.1 (on sub)
5) 10" TREO in custom ported fiberglass enclosure

Okay, after having this system for a while, the only thing I'm truly unsatisfied with is the bass. So, I'm thinking of having it changed to a different sub and a sealed enclosure (most likely an Eclipse Aluminum 10" sub).

EDIT: Info deleted. No longer applicable.

I was going to change my enclosure to a sealed fiberglass enclosure and putting in a Focal sub for some super tight, accurate bass. But, as I learned below, it's the wrong sub for the S2K.

Nate, take no offence to this, this is a statement for future stereo installers.

DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME...or else it cost more, and takes more time.

Yes it matters that the amp isnt pushing capacity. If I want 100wrms for my kappas, I want an amp thats at LEAST 150wrms. (As I currently have)

Also, remember one thing.....

I hate bass, I like just enough......My car now hits, well, inside, but not outside. I am running about 410 to my sub. So if you really like bass, 250 aint gonna do it. Sorry to say, but, I told you so.

Go with a bigger amp for the fronts, and a better sub with a better enclosure. From the people who heard it, Ive been getting nothing but compliments about my new sub.

*edit*

I would HIGHLY recommend you rethink the focal subs. Ive used them in a number of applications, and they are simply no good for an s2000. They are extremely SQ oriented, and are only rated at like 300 or so. This is not the car for these subs. You will be EXTREMELY disappointed with their performance in the s2000. Those subs go into vault-like vehicles like Audi A8, Benz S500, Lexus LS430, etc.....(same goes for MBQuart).....

My honest recommendations......

Eclipse
Alphasonik
Alpine Type X (very nice, although a tad expensive)
2003 model year, (not 2004) Soundstream Tarantula.

Also remember that sealed encosures are les efficient than ported ones, so the sub will need MORE power to it than before (assuming the same sub was used).

I still say that Eclipse Aluminum is what you are looking for. Reasonable price, excellent performance, tight sound.

Ahhh....I did not know that about the Focal subs. In that case, I better stick with the Eclipse.

Oh yes, I have learned the hard way that not doing the right set up from the get go costs more time and money. I am pissed about spending a little more doing it this way (mainly in labor, as I got full refund/credit for all equipment when I traded for something else).

I'll tell them to forget the Focal sub and stick to the Eclipse. And I was worried about having too much power, but I guess it's better that I have more than necessary. So we're good in that department. And once the sub portion of the job is completed, it will sound great.

Thanks again for the feedback.

EDITED: This was when I was frusturated and wanted to get rid of the system and spend my money on performance mods instead. Luckily, the system does sound good (despite me not thinking the bass is good enough yet), and I've enjoyed the tunes on all my trips!

But, if I could do things all over again, I would have done quite a bit differently, saving me time and money and stress!

I'm ready to get rid of the MMATS amp and any and all sub enclosures and just keep the CD player, Focals, an amp to power the mids/highs and my satellite radio. I'm not going to get the sound I want because the S2K is just not the right kind of car for it. All the other cars I listen to (and my previous cars) sounded better because they were better suited to a high-end custom stereo. And they have lower-end stuff than me. It's unbelievable! I have high-end stuff and an excess of power, yet I listen to other cars, and they sound better!

I've had it. All I have is extra weight and plenty of boom, but it will never be what I want. Maybe my expectations are too high. Sure, my mids and highs are clean and clear, and the bass is loud enough to be heard, but a damn convertible is just not the car for what I want.

I'd rather spend the money on a supercharger. All I need is a good pair of mids/highs so I can listen to Sirius and play some CD's. Forget the extra amp and sub. It's a bunch of money for nothing!

Sorry dude, but you wasted a ton of your money and time, and didnt listen the first time. You shop is crap, your equipment wasnt the top of the line, and it was set up wrong. I spend waaaaaay under what you spent on your car (not nearly enough to buy a supercharger) and it sounds as good if not better than most of the systems Ive done over the years. Live and learn. Sorry for your troubles, but you should have listened the first time to people who own the car, not a dumb shop with morons for workers.

EDITED

My current equipment is pretty high end (Audison, Focal, etc.), but it's not giving me the sound I want. I've come to the conclusion that if this system was in a different car, it would be AWESOME! But in my car, it's lacking some of the sound I'm looking for (sub/bass - not clear, tight or as accurate as I want it to be).

Although they did a pretty good job of matching some online prices or coming close, it still cost me more in time and labor to make upgrades and such.

I should have bought my own stuff and brought it to them. The last time I did that, the system sounded great.

So screw it. I'm returning the sub and MMATS amp. I'll keep the rest and have a nice, clean sounding system without a sub or extra power. Then I won't have to worry about extra weight in the car and will focus just on performance.

Stupid stereo! Waste of time and money. It's a bunch of

take it from me....a person who is friends with.....

RX7 with over 60 grand under the hood
M3 with over 20 grand under the hood
S4 with over 25 grand under the hood.....

There is NOTHING that you can do to a car, waste of money wise, than performance mods.

If you crash, all your money is gone.

You spend 100% of your time inside the car, so I want to make it as pleasurable as possible. If I had a supercharger ( which I will soon) I would have fun with it for a week, then go back to normal driving. But I use my system EVERY time I drive the car.

And there is NOTHING than a biggest waste of money than an Amuse exaust. I dont care what anyone says, $2500 for f*cking pipes?!

Good luck with whatever you do.

EDITED: Not Applicable.

p.s. I want to do some performance mods, and I realize they don't add value to the car (especially if it's wrecked), but I want more performance. A supercharger, exhaust and Rick's xbrace are my plans for the future.
