New Active Setup
For my newly acquired '06
JL 300/4 (already have)
Vifa 5.25" woofers >> updated >> Vifa 5.25" NE149W-04 (4 ohm)
Vifa .75" tweeters
Pioneer DEH-80PRS
10" JL 10W3-D6 in a sealed 0.8^3' box (already have)
(not yet decided) 200-300 watt monoblock
either 2C 14awg to each speaker or 4C 14awg to each door (then parted to tweeter/woofer) (already have)
^ i have a ton of 4C 14awg leftover
4awg power/ground to the trunk, then distro block to each amp.
Any suggestions on this setup? Different suggested tweeters or woofers? Recommendations for a cheap/decent smaller sized monoblock?
In my old AP1 I've been using a cheap Sony headunit to the JL 300/4 with Infinity components and bridged ch3&4 to the 10W3-D6 in the sealed box. Sounded pretty decent but lacked a lot of midrange and the tweeters couldn't keep up at higher volume.
Oh, and can the DEH-80PRS have multiple saved auto-eq's? (ie. top-up / top-down)

im by no means an expert and audio is highly subjective, so everybody will certainly give you a different answer. speaking from personal experience, unfortunately its all about trial and error. ive never tried those speakers before so i cant say how good or bad they are. my concern with the woofer is that the impedance is pretty high(normal for home audio speakers), youll need alot of power and the driver looks deep, wont be easy to mount. there are so many choices out there so its hard to suggest one, but for my woofer amp i went with a used JL 500/1. even though i dont have that particular head unit, im fairly certain all pioneers only have 1 slot for auto eq.
I just had this head unit installed a few weeks ago in my 2000 AP1. This is my setup.
Polk Audio DB6501 Component Speakers
JL Audio XD700
80PRS Manual
There was a mistake/miscommunication during installation... I asked them to make sure the 80PRS was setup in network mode which allows you to use it from the cockpit to control crossover and slope for a 3 way active network. This is done via a toggle on the top of the unit you can't reach unless you pull out the whole thing. Instead they left it in standard mode and used the 3 way active network capability of the XD700 to control crossover. While the amp does a good job, I still have to go into the trunk to tweak it and I get fewer tweaking options. You can read the manual I linked above for details. This is something I plan to correct later, but I must say it sounds AMAZING even with no subwoofer. I just wasn't happy with the installation compromises of a decent sub in a tiny car like this. Instead, I went with the largest and best bang for the buck speakers (DB6501) that I could identify anywhere. You really want to go with 6.5 inch components (1 in. tweeters) in the S2000.
There is only ONE auto equalizer slot. I too wanted one for top down and another for top up, but this is not possible. There are multiple manual custom equalizer slots, but that would be a pain to setup.

Just ordered:
Pioneer DEH-80PRS
MB Quart QS216
New battery terminals, etc
16AWG / 4 conductor speaker wire
Gonna use my JL300/4 & bridge ch 3&4 to the JL 10W3-D6 like I've been doing
I'll add a JL500/1 if I can find a simple way to mount both amps with the crossovers.
The rear trunk carpeted wall-board may be the only option to squeeze everything onto.

where do you have your amp and crossover mounted now?, would there be enough space to fit the 2nd amp once you remove the passive crossover. for my setup i mount the amp where the tool kit sits, if you wanna check it out its over here https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/473...t__p__22057880

I'm using a sub box that fits into the tool well area, and want to maximize my trunk space..
Anyways, got some stuff in!
Pioneer DEH-80PRS
MB Quart QS216 - WOW these larger than I imagined... the tweeters are too big to even fit where the stock tweeter is in the door panel without cutting/removing the two plastic posts that hold the stock tweeter in place...
Slightly worried about fitment with a 3/4" spacer with the woofers binding posts - they stick out pretty far and I'm worried they'll come in contact with the door metal.
Finished soldering the headunit harness, Modifry harness, and Modifry DCI (de-pinned all unused wires from all three harnesses)
Re-using some 4AWG power/ground wire and some old monster RCA's both 4Ch and 2Ch.
Gonna pick up some 3/4" MDF, spray paint (for the spacers), and hopefully find some foam speaker baffles local in stock at a Car Toys or something - Don't wanna slap these new speakers in the doors to have em ruined from rain water in the first week.
Will post updates tomorrow
