Default Better Bass Response ?

I am interested in more bass response, but I don't want to build in something permanent in case I need the trunk space.

I have seen a so called servo driven complete unit from Infinity that I can imagine being removable. Does anyone have experience with these? Are they a waste of time and money? How well does the bass shakers that Macveyer used work?

My door speaker is a 5.25". I could change it to a 6.5 but I strongly doubt that this will give me the base response I am looking for.

At speed with the top down I find the bass lacking unless I turn up the volume near maximum.

Blaupunkt Casablanca CD50
Blaupunkt 5.25 components, Tweeters in kick panels
Fostec tweeters in doors
Blaupunkt 6x4 Triaxials behind the seats
Rockford Fosgate 200.4 amp

I have a 10" MTX sub in a Qlogic box in the trunk. Fits snug, no harness or attachment needed. Mines running 400peak 200 rms. Run another amp. The qlogic box is excellent for anything you do, definately worth $60! Its better to do that then spend $220-400 on an Infinity.

I ran bass shakers, they suck. Dont bother.

I want to see photos of your 4x6s behind your seats too.

Shakers are no replacement for a real sub. Though mounting them directly to the bottom of your seat can sure make you think there is!(mounting directly to the bottom of the seat made all the difference in the world!)

I ran the professional shakers(fins) with over 60 watts to each(RMS). I let numerous people sit in my car down at S2K Days and everybodys responce was WOW!!!!!!! Then they checked the seats to see how it was done. Many said I gotta get a set for my car!

That being said eventually I still may put a true sub into my car but its just fine for me right now. Absolutely no space lost!!!! That was a requirement for me......if I wanted to I could and probably still will use the tool well for a sub area+amp. BingO has the best setup so far and I totally back it as long as its built strong enough.(not seen in person yet........but that is what I would use if I were to do a true sub.

Damm, Pinky, I wish I had been around to try yours with the shakers on the seats, just to compare with mine on the floor! I was at S2K days too, but was too new to know anybody from this board.

I didn't know they still made the 50W versions. Somebody told me they (aura) went out of business. I just got a second pair of 25W 'ers from Parts Express ($30) just as backups in case I fry the ones in the car.

If I built a box for the trunk and put a 8 or 10" sub in there powered by an old Pioneer 120 amp, do you think that would work? With the sub in the trunk how will the sound waves travel into the cab, especially at speed? I don't want bloated kiddy bass, if I go for more bass response I want it to be fairly accurate and tight.

PS I am not looking to blow my ear drums out, I just want a true representation of the recorded music.

My two cents on the bass shakers...

I also have them. And I do like the results. The shakers are not a replacement for low end sound that a sub woofer can produce. They should only be used if you want the illusion that a subwoofer is present in a car environment. If you do not want to give up the space in the trunk for a subwoofer (as I do. I needed space for my golf clubs and golf "pull" cart which was more of a priority for me than a subwoofer) then the shakers are the best alternative. I took the shaker installation one step further though... Instead of installing one shaker per seat, I did two. One mounted to the bottom of the seat and one mounted in the map pocket in back of each seat. Does it make a difference. Anyone that gets in my car does say... where did you end up putting the subwoofer? And I am very happy to say... There is NO Subwoofer... at least yet!. The shakers I have are rated at 25W (from Parts Express, not the ones that Pinky has)... but they are very power hungry... the more power you give them... the better the result you will have... I currently have a 45x2 amplifier powering them running parallel, and I want to change out that amp to give them a little more power... but then again... maybe not. A future project is to install a subwoofer enclosure in the passenger side footwell, to give me a better low end response. I am extremely happy with my sound system in my car, and the only thing I would change is to finally get that subwoofer enclosure installed... well, then again... there is too much I could change I just don't want to think about it

I have not seen your system Lucid or have I heard it... but I will be in NJ this weekend for the New Hope, PA Meet. Are you going to that? If not... let me know if you have a little free time. Maybe I could give you my opinion of your system... and you could take a listen(feel) to mine.
