I just roll up the extra cable and set it and the iPod in the cargo net on the passenger side of the tranny tunnel. Easy to get to if you want to bring the iPod with you when you leave the car.
No, one end of the wiring has a plug which attaches to the aftermarket HU, the other end of the wires is bare. The HU plug will most likely not be compatible with the stock plug. Though the wires may have the same color codes.
Easiest thing is to get a wiring harness adapter. Looks like the wiring harness that came with the HU, but has a Honda compatible connector on one end instead of HU plug. Connect the adapter to the HU harness, and plug into the stock radio harness. Modifry sells one with the dash control connections... if you're looking at his DCI. If not, you'll need to tap into the the old harness wires.
Sorry this post got a little long winded for clarification... Hope it helps.

quick question for those with the ipod connectors:
i checked the website and the cable looks incredibly short. i'm planning on getting a 9857 and running the ipod cable to the center storage console. will the wire they supply go that far?

are we able to keep the panel controls with the alp 9857?

I'm thinking about getting this HU.
1. When do new units normally come out? Is a new Alpine HU around the corner?
2. Where is everyone buying it? Crutchfield is $349. I've purchased from them before, and they provide a free wiring harness and any other mounting gear.
3. DCI Question - Any functionality difference between wired and IR?
4. DCI Question - Any details on the wiring? For example, if I have the free wiring harness from Crutchfield, I would splice some of the wires with the Alpine harness and some with the DCI wiring. Then just plug in the DCI?
5. DCI Question - What's special with the wiring harness that is sold with the DCI? If I have a harness from Crutchfield, do I still need this?
6. Anything tricky about mounting this unit in the S2K?
Thanks!
