Default New GPS Tracking options

No reviews of specs on how long the charge lasts, but there appears to be no monthly fee and a nice iPhone app. If you could hardware this into an S, I think it would be a great, cost effective, theft recovery solution. Available in May for $170

Any holes in my idea?

Doesn't sound practical to me if standby is 48 - 72 hours. Usage times will vary as the specs state. Cellular battery life varies with coverage and that's just one factor affecting battery life.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect any battery to last long enough, but if I wired the power to the S2000, battery life wouldn't be an issue.

These seems easy to extend the standby life. First, if you wire it directly into a 12v source, you'll get 48-72hrs after the car is turned off. Or, you could have it wired into a constant 12v source, and it would still barely drain the battery.

Even better, get one of those new high capacity cell phone portable backup battery's such as this:

http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen-PGMPP...battery+backup

It's 13,000 mAh. You wire it into a 12v wire to keep it constantly charged. When power is cut, you have 13,000mAh of backup. Since the GPS unit is 300mAh and lasts 2-3 days, this would theoretically give you another 40 times of backup power, so it could be good for 3 months!

Another thing though....the unit has to be mounted somewhere where it's GPS signal won't be blocked. I'm thinking under the dash deep, or in one of the plastic panes behind the seats.

Don't think it's released yet. Not much info on specifications. Also, I wonder about the counter with GPS jammer.

All in all, a budget solution given all others are easily 3-4 times more costly.

Claims no monthly fee as data is send by SMS message. Use Sim card like phones. $149
