i don't think this will work for you. the oem cd changer is an Alpine changer converted to work with Honda radios.

there's an outside chance that you could get it to work with an alpine receiver but...

it will be cheaper and easier to sell your oem changer and buy one that works with the aftermarket radio you want.

i wouldn't bet on it...

you might want to call Crutchfield. they have a lot of accessories that do just this... you might get lucky and find that they have the setup you're looking for... i've scanned their site and haven't found an exact adapter, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

BTW, if you're planning to replace the in-dash CD player, an MP3 capable CD player can obsolete the CD changer. As long as you have a computer to make (or download) MP3 files and burn them onto CDs, a single CD can hold 125-150 songs in mp3 format.

yeah -- there are MP3 capable DVD head units out there, but you're probably looking at something between $600 to $1000 in price. not to mention, you'd need a DVD burner and DVD blanks are still quite expensive.

examples of these headunits would be the Alpine DVA-7996
another would be the Pioneer DVH-P5000MP

yeah, i dunno if that's worth it. a single 700MB cd holds a few hours of music depending on quality. how less often do you want to swap in and out cds

I would love to revive this thread to get some info on the DVD receivers that can play the MP3 on DVD disks.

I am currently using JVC SH99 CD MP3 unit with ext. amps, rear speakers, sub and so on but am getting to the point where I have to carry too many CD's. I have absolutely no interest in having a video in my S but would love to be able to play DVD-ROM with MP3 files on it. The main advantages I am looking for over CD-MP3 are, of course, having more songs per disk but, more importantly, I don't want to be restricted in using the denser compression (192, 256k bits).

Has anybody verified any of these units can play MP3's in DVD-ROM disk format on DVD-R and/or DVD+R medium? PJK3? my2k2s2000? Have you personally seen the disks played on these?

Panasonic CQ-DVR592U
Alpine DVA-7996
Pioneer DVH-P5000MP
JVC KD-DV5000

The manuals of every one of these units specifically say that they CANNOT play DVD-ROM disk. However, I suspect some of this units do. Lucid said that Panasonic unit does in this thread and I heard from another person that Alpine unit does. Can anyone confirm this? If you have any of these units and wouldn't mind trying this for me, I will send you a DVD; please PM me.

BTW, I have these non-car DVD players that play exactly these disks.

Sony MPD-AP20U ($140-$150 street price. This unit is also a CD writer via USB2)
Philips DVD727 ($54 at GoodGuys last week.)

The Philips unit's manual says nothing about this functionality but it works beautifully with DVD-MP3. That gives me a hope to pursue this function in the above models.
