Default New Ipods Not Charging

I was really excited to get my new iPod nano, until I got back into my car after work and found that the battery had completely died. I have an Alpine headunit with the newer iPod interface, and have used my first gen nano without issues. However, after trying the nano in my car again I found that the screen states "accessory does not support charging" and continues to play after the radio is shut off.

I checked Apple's site regarding this, and it simply stated that the new models don't support firewire connections. I was under the impression that the docking cable from Alpine was something different from firewire.

Can anyone help direct me to iPod models that DO work with the Alpine head units? It appears that I'm out of luck when it comes to their current offerings.

Ironic, I was just about to post a potential solution to this problem. I did some googling and I came across a $30 product (which I've just ordered) that you might be interested in.

Paper Lawyer, over in the UK forum, also found this accessory that is identical.

In a nutshell, the devices simply relocate the charging pins so they will function with the new iPods and iPhones. I don't have first hand experience with these yet (although there is a video review on YouTube for the CableJive adapter that you might want to see) but I anticipate this will be the solution we are all seeking.

Well, my CableJive iPhone adapter finally came in and I am happy to say it works as advertised. My iPhone now charges while connected to my Alpine deck. My only gripe (if you could call it that) is the adapter's offset. The offset prevents me from using my Griffin iPhone windshield mount (which isn't very practical in the S anyway).

Otherwise, I'm satisfied with the results. The adapter took about 1 week to arrive and CableJive even sent me a 15% off coupon. (Too bad it expired yesterday!) Regardless of the manufacturer, an adapter like this is the solution to our iPhone power problems.

I have a Scosche Passport and it works well with the Touch 2G and the CDA-9886.

I got this one as well. A little on the big side but works none-the-less. You can also pick them up at BestBuy if you're in a rush or don't feel like waiting on the mail.
