New OEM Harness to address lack of rear mute(pic)
I've been getting a lot of requests to address the lack of rear mute on the OEM stereo. Here is my solution:
This is the working prototype version B of my harness. It changes the function of the mute button to an ON/OFF button. All other dash controls perform as they normally would. When you press the Mute, the radio turns off. Press it again and the radio turns on to your last Cd track position and radio station. Some may prefer the OFF verses the mute because if you have your CD playing it keeps on playing, this way it stops it where it is.

Geeze, am I stoopid, or what? Why didn't I think of this? I never bothered to do the "speaker-output relay thing" to mute because my rears only power the bass shakers and aren't too annoying, but with the added benefit of "resume play" I think I'll do this soon.
I've already hacked my radio harness (cutting wires doesn't bother me), so I won't bother with the connector fix you have, but I like your idea to make it easy for those with limited 'hacking' skills.
Looks like you have a relay to kill power to the radio, did you consider using a mosfet instead? It would be much smaller, and the price should be about the same as a relay. That's probably the way I'll go when I do mine.
Nice goin' Lucid!
