new p980 pioneer replacement model this year?
soo, i was wondering if anyone had the answer. i have a p960 from sheesh, years ago. its does the job, but the ipod control is F'n horrible. i want to upgrade just because of that. anyways, the reason for me wanting to stay with pionner premier is, i like xm/sirius, whatever you call it. and years back, like 5 now, i bought of ebay a used pioneer ip bus based xm receiver. when i hooked it up it worked. i figured i would wait until the previous owner disconnected service, well, whatever the reason, 5 years later i still can use it. sooooo, i am in no rush to get rid of it.
the p800 seems cool, but if they are coiming out with a newer p980 i can wait, heck been waiting this long. i would love if they would ditch the built in amp stuff, just go all out with sq. anyways, anyone have a some inside info?

as of right now i havent heard of them replacing that model... i work for best buy and they are still actually selling that model online ... i love the display but the functionality is a bit dated....
hey camuman, i also have the 980bt. i am having trouble getting my bluetooth to auto connect to either of my phones. i can go through the headunit menu to connect or connect through my phone menu. do you have the same problem? pioneer says that it will only auto connect if i leave the headunit on,leave the car, go out of range and then return. sounds like a lame excuse to me. let me know how it works for you.i have read a few forums that say it has to do with the phone set up or version. let me know what you think. as for the ipod connection, i think it works pretty good but i think i am going to go away from the pioneer connection and go with an aftermarket direct wire so i can control my ipod on the ipod. see ya
welp, this was conveinint, stupid p960 i have broke on me last week. not enough time to shop and buy new radio, so no music to and from dragon. omg this is gonna suck.
anywho, these are the ones i am looking at.
alpine 9887
pioneer 800prs
eclipse 7200
anyone comment on which they prefer?
the only cool thing about the pioneer is my xm will still work with it, but i am not married to xm, so its not the end of the world.
all comments appreciated.

Pioneer for SQ, Alpine for the rice, and Eclipse for a little bit of both.
I'd pick the 800 over the others, no question. It sounds much better, is built with higher quality components, has much more tunability if you're into that, and looks really clean and uncluttered.
The Alpine does have better functionality and iPod connectivity, as well as being more blingy looking, which I know more people prefer.

im gonna try one shortly. before this car every car i had was active. had mini comp id horns and 8" mid bass up front in one car on active, and mb quart active in another car.
what i noticed with the mb quart i have now is you can bi amp thru the cross over they came with. the big thing i am wondering, is will i gain sq being able to manipulate the xover for them? i know i will gain some sq with clean power for both tweeter and mid bass, and the amp has a free channel just begging to be used
decisions, decisions..........
if i go active with radio controlling xover, gonna have to run one more rca cable set. hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I wouldn't mess with biamping through the xover. You'll gain some SQ from doing it that way (no feedback interference between the speakers), but you lose being able to customize your xover points. For people who are new to active builds, biamping the xovers is a great way to get started without having to worry about where they should put the xover points...but you've done active before, so you have a good idea of how to tune it.
I don't even use the xovers on my amps. Both builds, all 6 amps, (3 Class A/B, 3 Class D) all of them are full-pass and I use my CD7100s to control the xover points.
