Default Newbie Amp Question

I'm a newb when it comes to electronics. I need some quick advice from you experts. I bought an S2000 a few months ago with aftermarket pioneer speakers already installed in the doors. It's lacking power but I'm pretty sure it's due to the stock head unit. My question is, would I benefit more by getting an aftermarket head unit or getting an amp for the stock head unit? I'm not too keen on spending too much money on it and the head units I've looked at says around 50watts x4 peak power. Would that kind of head unit deliver enough power to actually make use of the aftermarket speakers?

Thanks!

Ignore the peak power it's the RMS that's important.

In an ideal world you want the input into your speakers to match what the speaker wants to receive, ie. if the speakers RMS is 50 then to get the best out of them you should drive them with 50rms.

If your HU says 50w peak it'll be around 17-18rms I'd have thought.

I guess your first port of call would be to check the rms rating of your speakers...?

To be honest though, I'd change your HU regardless as the OEM one is horrendous - Honda, you should be

You'd definitley benefit with a better source unit. Why not buy used so you can budget for a Head Unit and an Amp.

you'll get more benefit by getting an aftermarket head unit. stock headunit will sound like crap. plus you'll need to get a high low converter that will sound like crap after also

+1 vote for a HU first. Don't expect to big of a change without an amp. Amp is an expensive upgrade though.
